I mean, this is just about the least surprising thing in the universe.
There's actually a ton of conservatives that like RATM because they like how it sounds but don't understand the lyrics. They are often genuinely shocked when they realize.
Is that why they like all that moaning grating death metal?
Never met a conservative death metal fan myself, they mostly seem to be center or left politically. Then again, it's just anecdotal so it might not mean anything.
I can understand conservatives who like the music but disagree with the lyrics, but the amount who don't know RATMs leanings is simply baffling.
Conservatives often have very poor media literacy. They're often not smart or empathetic, because if they were then they wouldn't be conservative.
They're so bad at it that they wind up liking media that is directly mocking them. They legit say things like "I liked Stephen Colbert better before he went woke. The Colbert Report was good back in the day." They completely missed that Larry the Cable Guy is a character. They like Fight Club and The Wolf of Wall Street for exactly the wrong reasons.
You have to be an extremely clueless dumbass to miss the very clear message behind RATM music, and yet they somehow still manage. They must have been sniffing glue while the teacher was going over analysis and annotations.
Oh god I remember a debate at work between two guys trying to decide if Stephen Colbert was really conservative or not, and therefore good.
The irony burns. Especially when it's some dumb boomer in a maga hat dancing around wrapped in a flag
This is still one of my favorite social media interactions of all time. And especially given the OP's topic since Morello's alma mater is Harvard.
Ha, I've seen davez67's comment and Morello's reply before, but never the actual picture. I need that fucking shirt
Same with those who “rock” that Punisher logo. Shit I’ve seen an AR with a forward assist etched with a trump face but in the punisher format.
Fucking batshit.
Same as the pig who murdered Daniel Shaver who had “you’re fucked” etched on the dust cover, they’ve been off the deep end for quite a while
Punisher Vol. 12, #13
I love that Gerry Conway took back over the book EXCLUSIVELY to make Punisher threaten some cops who had his skull on their bumper.
It blows my fucking mind that these people exist, agreed.
What the fuck machine do they think he's been raging against? A cappuccino machine?
Education is the solution. It always is. We need to educate the living shit out of all those conservative dipshits so they stop doing so many dumb fucking things.
It's that simple. Now, if only we had a functioning department of education...
"You can lead a horse to water by you can't make them think." Adapting this adage I come up with "You can lead a conservative to information but you can't make them think."
You can't even make the horse drink, let alone think.
Doesn’t even have to be education, but just some critical thinking skills. Just ask yourself some simple questions, “Why are they doing this?” or “How will this benefit me?”
The problem is they think that they are educated and that they have researched these topics by going to websites run by conservative think tanks. Once that's in their minds, they begin pushing any alternative viewpoint away as liberal propaganda because, in their mind, they've already researched it. They can't even consider that their research might have been compromised from the beginning to lead them to a purposefully wrong conclusion.
It can be corrected, but it takes a LOT of effort to undo 40+ years of misinformation and propaganda being drip fed to the populace through media conglomerates like Fox News, moonlighting as far and balanced sources of information. Purposefully sprinkling bits of reality in to point to when confronted about it.
You're not actually working to change someone's point of view on one topic, you're having to show them that potentially their entire belief system is based on lies and deceit to manipulate them, and not based on reality and facts.
We need to educate their kids out from under them.
Why do you think they've been systematically dismantling the public education system?
It's not about printers? "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me" sounds like most printers these days.
I'd like to think Paul Ryan still cries himself to sleep at night over this.
I would like the universe even more if it gave Paul Ryan perpetual kidney stones.
Yes, having the frontman of your favorite band personally reject you as a person for your consistently harmful behavior would probably make anyone with a conscience reconsider.
Anyone with a conscience.
Next up, Serj Tankian.
