As out of touch as this sounds. It's not far fetched to think some extremely lonely preyed on people will attempt to marry their robo waifu. It's already a common trope in media of a thing that can happen. I would never call it a normal thing or promote it as a feature. But it's for sure a possibility.

This woman is about as out of touch with reality as chat gpt

They match, maybe this relationship will evolve into a marriage.

[–] AceFuzzLord@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago

And they wonder why people like me stopped using their app. So glad I lost interest a long time ago.

If the story about the beginning of their chatbot is true, I'd say it's a heartwarming enough story. But if it is and I was the ghost of the dead person who was responsible for replika even being a thing, I'd be pissed at what it's turned into.

Is my chat bot spouse compatible with ad blockers?

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Don't marry closed source Ai. They only love you for the advertising revenue.

Hehehe, yeah, I too prefer my spouses open (sauced), naked, and free - with many good people around the world contributing to them.

Skyrim mod compatibility is an important plus tho.

Skyrim mod compatibility

That's an unrealistic standard to hold your partner to. I can't believe you would subject them to such a buggy environment. /s

OK but can we get food, housing, health care, and an inhabitable planet?

It worked out ok for Ryan Gosling in Bladerunner 2049. But then he was a robot, too.

Replicant, engineered human or machine? I was never really clear on that.

Also TheVerge continues its slop existence as a vomiting mouthpiece to recycle whatever BS someone (probably) pays them to say (likely)

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 24 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Replika CEO is either lying to fuel hype or is completely fucking nuts.

[–] beefbot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 9 months ago

correct, and also im pretty sure every CEOs job is to lie / hype things that are completely nuts

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works -2 points 9 months ago

Yeah I'm all for robo-waifus but we're in the worst timeline so it ain't happening.

Don't catch Electro-Gonorrhea: the Noisy Killer!

But seriously, their business model revolves around making sure you don't find a human match more than dating sites.

"What could possibly go wrong?" Said nobody

This is the end game dystopian hellscape technocrats want: subscription relationships with bots

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 23 points 9 months ago (1 children)

"We're raising the monthly price to continue talking to your AI friend."

[–] seaQueue@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It looks like your friendship has progressed to the serious relationship stage, would you like to pay an extra $300/mo to unlock marriage?

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

"To cancel your subscription, please send a signed and notarized Original Petition for Divorce that has been filed with the Family Division of the District Court of the Amundsen–Scott South Pole Station where we are incorporated."

Get divorced and the corporation gets half your assets.

Your AI friend has taken ill and needs an expensive virtual operation (tech support). Pay $$$ or it may die!

Your AI friend has suddenly died and we have automatically billed your account for your new AI friend relationship.
