Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Don't let that bug you. They are no longer taking up your time and energy, and that's what matters. If they are an asshole, chances are high that others are blocking them anyway.
Is really stupid.
Blocking here is simply a way to remove annoyances from your sight, nothing else.
If you need to prevent them from repeatedly contacting you, or spreading bullshit against you, or something similar, contact instance admins instead. They're the ones responsible for keeping users safe.
Blocking you stops you from hearing from them, not them from being able to see you.
Otherwise it'd be used as a debate winner by stopping people from being able to respond for others to see.
Basically it's predicated on the idea that if you can't see it happening, then it doesn't count as continued harassment and bullying.
Isn't the way it works now also a debate winner? The blocked user can reply to you and you won't even know, so you can't refute whatever they've said (and if you've blocked them there's decent odds it isn't good).
Apparently this is how blocking works over here. It doesn't make the blocked user unable to interact with you. It just makes them scream into a void. I think the idea is that if you block someone they disappear from your posts but not the other way around.
Yet that people still can annoy you and chat with you plus accusing you.
