Have you... have you never felt the joy of holding a great stick?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Absolutely. Every time I browse the porn communities here.

Thanks to this post, I have spent the past few minutes looking at pictures of sticks and going "kwoah, that's a good stick." Time well spent.

I run [email protected] for people who like video games and neat art.

You should also make a point of checking the sidebars of communities, sometimes they link to a couple other relevant ones you might like. I always do.

If you're a weeb like me, come on down to the ani.social instance. Lots of communities, and again the sidebars of many link to others you might like, even off that instance.

If not, you could consider doing the opposite and blocking the instance in order to cut out a lot of the anime content from your feed, since it's not your deal.

I tend to find stuff by hopping over to ALL now and then, but my sublist is now so big I usually stick to my subscribed feed.

I advice that it gets a lot nicer to scroll through ALL to find stuff, if you don't avoid blocking communities and instances you aren't interested in engaging with. That way the list of content gets shorter and easier to browse in terms of discovery.

To clarify, they're known as Communities on Lemmy, or magazines on mbin.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Well they're called communities on reddit too officially

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Now, but for the majority of the time I used reddit they still were only ever "subreddits".

Remember for a time there weren't even any subreddits.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Are they?

I noticed they changed "subscribe" to "join" a while ago but I don't think anyone actually calls it that. Is this another change because "subreddit" is definitely the original official term.

Check this out

Edit:

#flashing image warning

The page redirects:

flashing images

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

trying to read that is giving me a seizure

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The point is the link to creating a subreddit automatically redirects to a new page for creating a community. I included a link.

Edit: I added a warning and hid it behind a spoiler.

I followed specific communities here at first like I did on Reddit, but Lemmy is so small I ended up mostly just browsing the Local feed. It’s a reasonable size (on lemmy.world anyway) and exposes me to some things I would never have found otherwise.

There is also a bunch of crap in there but I find it easy enough to just scroll past what doesn’t interest me.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago

Yeah aight fair enough. I'm liking that you can fully block subs on here versus reddit where you can't. Much more freedom in tuning your feed.
