I'm going to vote for RFK. I think he has a couple of good points about looking at source code, rather than banning apps made in China. The whole TikTok ban was just stupid. Google, Microsoft, and other corporate companies already do so much shady stuff; why the hell are we banning businesses from other countries when all we need is the source code? Also, he is against government surveillance, which I think is a really good thing that can really restore our democracy. I've felt as if we've lost so much of our freedoms just from all this mass surveillance. People cannot look for information freely, which is a very important part of our democracy.
Lol you can't vaccinate stupid.
Can you elaborate? I was looking for an actual debate, but okay, if you just wanna call me stupid, go ahead I guess.
Edit: He isn't even against vaccines, so what are you on about? He advocates for more safety and regulation when it comes to vaccines, that doesn't mean he's against it.
He is against vaccines.
Source code is trade secret and you're not going to get it. Even if you did, the amount of time you would have to devote to code review, understanding said code, it is far too easy to obfuscate.
RFK is an unserious person and you lack critical thinking skills if you take anything he says or stands for seriously.
Again, if you legitimately want to learn, ignorance, can be solved.
But rejecting truth, in face of all evidence, is stupid, has no cure, and then I hope that you don't reproduce.
well, stupid is thinking that the source code of an app means anything when all the data goes to their servers and they can and will do whatever they want with it there.
Seriously, does nobody know how to debate here? Source code is crucial because it allows us to audit the app to ensure it's safe for app stores. If it's only communicating with a server and not spying on users, then all it really has is account data. It's about making sure the app doesn't have any malicious features. It's crazy how quickly everyone jumps to calling each other stupid.
You literally don't know how this works.
This is why politicians say buzz words and people buy into it because they don't think critically into what this would actually involve.
Worrying about foreign apps, when Google and Facebook collect as much, or more, is just like jingling keys in front of a baby. It's a distraction. Go ahead, vote for RFK, let me know what that gets you.
And what did Marx think about voting for the lesser evil:
Even where there is no prospect of achieving their election the workers must put up their own candidates to preserve their independence, to gauge their own strength and to bring their revolutionary position and party standpoint to public attention. They must not be led astray by the empty phrases of the democrats, who will maintain that the workers’ candidates will split the democratic party and offer the forces of reaction the chance of victory. All such talk means, in the final analysis, that the proletariat is to be swindled. The progress which the proletarian party will make by operating independently in this way is infinitely more important than the disadvantages resulting from the presence of a few reactionaries in the representative body.
Most people are trying to bring in social programs, not communism. The Democrats can do social programs, and they can do them better when we move the Overton window left by continually voting in Democrats
hey do you have a Mastodon or anything? a peertube channel? time for new friends?
Trump and his cult will be a little more than "a few reactionaries in the representative body".
And Marx is talking about Parliamentary systems here, which may color the analysis.
Maybe an American opinion:
I will be no party to it and that will make little difference. You will take large part and bravely march to the polls, and that also will make no difference. Stop running Russia and giving Chinese advice when we cannot rule ourselves decently. Stop yelling about a democracy we do not have. Democracy is dead in the United States. Yet there is still nothing to replace real democracy. Drop the chains, then, that bind our brains. Drive the money-changers from the seats of the Cabinet and the halls of Congress. Call back some faint spirit of Jefferson and Lincoln, and when again we can hold a fair election on real issues, let’s vote, and not till then. Is this impossible? Then democracy in America is impossible.
That's a very poignant piece, and it was my motivation back in 2000 when I refused to vote for Bush or Gore. It was also before I knew anything else about Du Bois and the context in which he wrote that piece, and it certainly wasn't when a guy like Trump was running.
So, you’re the reason Gore lost? /s
I mean, in the greater sense yes. I was one of countless apathetic or cynical people who could have actually voted and possibly made a difference. People have been reposting and miscontextualizing this Du Bois bit since the 50's, trying to trick people who think their smart into feeling good about not voting. They do this because they know it works.
He was a 90 something year old black man when he wrote this piece in 1956. Compared to the things he lived through earlier in his life, the stakes in 56 were a little less urgent. Likewise the stakes he lived through in 56 weren't as urgent as the stakes this year.
He also wrote it in the hopes that voter apathy would send a message. He was right... but not how he hoped. It sent a message that spreading voter apathy was a better tactic than changing policy. Again, there's a reason why this piece is trotted out every four years.
lovely
bravo
just perfect
would that we could hear it in his own voice
I just can't wait for those of us in the queer community to either be thrown in camps or flee the company, all so that the people who didn't vote can tell me it's actually because of Biden.
I’d love to make a glib analogy like ‘my toast got burnt so I burned my house down and most of the neighbourhood’ but the literal fact that so many people are suffering makes that sort of thing rather tasteless.
I don’t think Biden is “Genocide Joe”. That’s ridiculous hyperbole which doesn’t help. We (the public) don’t know what kind of pressure is being levered in the background to end all the horrors of this situation.
People not voting Dem merely because of difficult historical relationships with Israel are dangerously deluded.
I will hold my nose and vote against a dictatorship but I do understand why people are so FUCKING ANGRY with the DNC for not even trying to find someone who is representative of the Democratic voters. They haven't done so for the last decades and it is getting to point where something serious needs to be done about it. As in, make it clear to those 'in power' that we will make their lives a living hell if they continue to ignore the people.
It's more than insulting. It's disgusting behavior by people who know they can do whatever the fuck they want and no one can say or do anything about it because TRUUUMP!! It's a fucking joke. It's a disgrace to democracy and I will never again vote for Democrats.
This country is in fucking shambles.
This should be a lovely comment section... I'll have to return with some nice warm dinner and a drink later.
I never get tired of these kinds of low effort posts.
Either I’m an idiot or this doesn’t make any sense at all.
I can’t be certain of either, so…
