Welcome to Lemmy.fan!

This instance succeeds on one simple mantra: Be kind, and do unto others as you have done to yourself. Consider for a moment that we’re ALL on the the same rapidly-spinning, mostly-watery orb, hurtling through space at fantastic speeds, and trading metal and paper for our livelihoods. The unknown will always dwarf the known. Learning never ends. We may be experts in something, but no one person is an expert in all things.

Given that, here our are very simple

There's no good reason for them to be on the road. Consider the following:

  • They're extremely loud and cause noise pollution

  • They're very dangerous on the road and have high accident rates

  • They're bad for the environment and cause air pollution

  • They're extremely inefficient as they can only carry 1-2 people max

  • They can't carry cargo

  • They're dangerous for pedestrians

  • They're very demanding to operate

  • They're virtually useless in the winter when there's snow, ice, and hail

  • The people who tend to drive them tend to be assholes who don't respect road laws

People complain about cars all the time, and while our car dependency is definitely a big issue that we need to address, cars still have a lot utility. Motorcycles on the other hand? Not really. I think getting rid of them once and for all is good way to immediately make our roads safer, simplify traffic, and open up a pathway to move away from cars.

Both auto-forwarding and auto-reply are paid features, which makes cancelling & switching much more difficult. Gmail is a breeze comparatively. I highly recommend against using their addresses (e.g. protonmail.com, proton.me, pm.me)

Email forwarding is available for everyone with a paid Proton Mail plan.

The Microsoft AI team shares research that demonstrates how AI can sequentially investigate and solve medicine’s most complex diagnostic challenges—cases that expert physicians struggle to answer.

Benchmarked against real-world case records published each week in the New England Journal of Medicine, we show that the Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator (MAI-DxO) correctly diagnoses up to 85% of NEJM case proceedings, a rate more than four times higher than a group of experienced physicians. MAI-DxO also gets to the correct diagnosis more cost-effectively than physicians.

I just feel more and more it's a cheap excuse to dismiss debate out of hand rather then confront an uncomfortable truth.

I just don't buy that anyone online cares if someone is arguing in good or bad faith

Does Pixellmator^TM^ do most of what PhotoShop^TM^ does?

How would you recommend going about that given these constraints?

When you send a screenshot (even if height/width only is cropped) , the screenshot's width and height can be used to find the iPhone model of someone or narrowed down.

The most unique sized iPhone on the market right now is the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as no other phone has the same width and height. So if you send a screenshot people will 100% know your exact phone. The regular iPhone 16 is common with the rest of the other phones and not unique.

If you send a screenshot from a iPhone XR, people can know if you using an iPhone 11 or iPhone XR since they have the same dimension which narrows down alot of options. (828x1792)

You can use this site here to view a list of all the dimensions. Click the iPhone's tab and sort the physical width or height.

If you don't want to expose your phone model, crop both width and height of each screenshot randomly. I would suggest cropping out the top of the phone as it shows your time if you care about that. Some sites like X have random inaccurate dimensions in uploaded screenshots, which is different from the original raw screenshot.

I haven't really checked with android phones, but it's probably the same thing.

Example, Lemmy.ml and Lemmy.world have duplicate communities aren't connected at all. So we are artificially isolating groups more and making it confusing for would be converts.

First of all I know a lot of people don't like this game so I'm not here to change anyone's mind.

Ok what I wanted to say is this is one of the best f2p pvp games rn. It's so much fun after the decent changes. The perks system is amazing. The game in general feels really good both in terms of quality and content. I never played Overwatch 1 so I'm not the best judge but picking this game up now, I'm enjoying it a lot, especially the stadium mode.

I don't like that in agent bans the same heros keep getting banned. And now new map voting is also coming and I'm afraid it can make the game boring bit who knows. Anyways let me know your thoughts.

Generated Summary:

Main Topic: Iran's decision to disable GPS across its territory and adopt China's Beidou (Bato) satellite navigation system, and the implications of this shift for U.S. dominance in space and global geopolitics.

Key Points:

  • Iran's Shift: Iran has disabled GPS and adopted China's Beidou, a geopolitical statement driven by concerns over cyber warfare, electronic jamming, and dependence on Western-dominated systems.
  • Reasons for the Shift:
    • Rising cyber warfare threats and tensions with the US and Israel.
    • Geostrategic alignment with China, which offers technical superiority in some areas.
    • A scandal involving alleged leaks of Iranian officials' locations via WhatsApp and Instagram.
  • GPS Origins and Dominance: GPS, built and controlled by the US military, became the backbone of global navigation. The US unlocked high precision for civilian access in 2000, fueling the growth of smartphones, Uber, and precision agriculture.
  • China's Beidou as a Competitor: China developed Beidou after realizing its military vulnerability during the 1996 Taiwan Strait crisis. Beidou now rivals GPS, with more satellites and ground stations, offering better positioning accuracy in some regions and unique features like short message communication.
  • Beidou's Capabilities: Beidou offers high accuracy, anti-jamming protections, and short message communication. It powers over 1.5 billion users daily and is integrated into China's Belt and Road Initiative.
  • Implications for Iran: Beidou provides Iran with a secure, independent navigation network, enhancing the precision of its military operations and strengthening its economic resilience under sanctions.
  • Future Trends: China aims to make Beidou the world's go-to system by 2035. The US is upgrading its GPS system, but these upgrades offer only moderate improvements.

Highlights:

  • Iran's move is not just a tech upgrade but a geopolitical realignment, signaling a shift away from Western digital hegemony.
  • Beidou is becoming a first-choice alternative for countries seeking political independence.
  • The US Space Force acknowledges that GPS is lagging in updates.
  • Beidou's short message communication feature is a unique strategic capability not offered by GPS.
  • The video poses the question of whether more countries will follow Iran's lead and adopt Beidou.
