Welcome to Lemmy.fan!

This instance succeeds on one simple mantra: Be kind, and do unto others as you have done to yourself. Consider for a moment that we're ALL on the the same rapidly-spinning, mostly-watery orb, hurtling through space at fantastic speeds, and trading metal and paper for our livelihoods. The unknown will always dwarf the known. Learning never ends. We may be experts in something, but no one person is an expert in all things.

Given that, here our are very simple

Rules

Facts based in reality and science are not debatable.

Opinions are great, just be ready to back yours up with a solid foundation of factual information and/or research.

No NSFW communities are allowed to be created on this instance.

Community creation is encouraged so long as it is actively moderated.

Donations are not being accepted or expected. This rule may change IF the instance grows beyond current capacity. Please enjoy an ad-free, donation-free social media experience.

Lastly, negative behaviors such as trolling, harassment, stalking, brigading, and other offensive behaviors as judged by the instance admin(s) will not be tolerated. Immediate and permanent bans are issued for spammers, trollers, vote brigaders, stalkers, harassers, and those of similar ilk. All decisions will be made by the instance admin(s). Those decisions are final and incontestable.

That's the end of the boring but necessary stuff.

Summary

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law banning adoption of Russian children by citizens of countries where gender transition is legal, targeting at least 15 nations.

Additional legislation prohibits promoting child-free lifestyles, with fines up to $50,000, framing such views as part of Western efforts to weaken Russia.

These measures align with Putin’s push for “traditional values” amid population decline, including past bans on LGBTQ+ information and gender-transition procedures.

Critics view these moves as part of a broader crackdown on liberal ideologies and dissent, intensified since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It's time to set up the coaching carousel! P4 head coaching jobs will probably be very sparse this year, as athletic departments will be on the hook to pay players and are apparently no longer willing to pay the monstrous buyouts that many of their coaches have. But there may still be plenty of action in the Group of 5 (and among coordinators). Here's the current list of FBS HC moves (I'll update it as it spins along):

  • Ball State: ~~Mike Neu~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Central Michigan: Jim McElwain (retiring at end of season)
  • Charlotte: ~~Biff Poggi~~ replaced by OPEN
  • East Carolina: ~~Mike Houston~~ replaced by OPEN
  • FAU: ~~Tom Herman~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Fresno State: ~~Jeff Tedford~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Kennesaw State: ~~Brian Bohannon~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Rice: ~~Mike Bloomgren~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Southern Miss: ~~Will Hall~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Temple: ~~Stan Drayton~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Tulsa: ~~Kevin Wilson~~ replaced by OPEN
  • UMass: ~~Don Brown~~ replaced by OPEN
  • Utah State: ~~Blake Anderson~~ replaced by OPEN

Other notes: A lot of "hot seats" (e.g. Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, West Virginia) probably cooled off by winning enough games. Mack Brown at UNC claims he's not retiring. Deion Sanders at CU claims he does not intend to go to the NFL.

Want to pawn off your disappointing coach/assistants on an unsuspecting team? Try to sell me on them in the comments!

Apparently, over 50% of voters think Europe is more important for trade than the US:

Asked 'is Europe or the US more important to the UK' in 'terms of trade', 58 per cent chose Europe and just 34 per cent the States

Yes, I know, you knew already. Don't tell me - tell your friends and any politician, exec or other person not in the know who are still thinking of AI as the solution to all of our problems instead of for the limited number of applications it's actually good for.

Defense forces of Ukraine hit the S-400 anti-aircraft radar station of the Russian occupiers

On the night of November 24, units of the missile forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in cooperation with other components of the Defense Forces, launched a group attack on the positions of the anti-aircraft missile division 1490 of the 6th anti-aircraft missile regiment of the Russian Army in the Kursk region.

A successful hit to the radar station of the S-400 anti-aircraft missile system was recorded.

It should be noted that this unit of the Russian Armed Forces conducted combat operations in the "land-to-land" mode, that is, hitting land-based stationary targets. Civilian objects and peaceful residents of settlements in the front-line regions of Ukraine mostly fall under such shelling by the Russian invaders.

Combat work on the military objectives of the occupiers continues.

Next will be...

Glory to Ukraine!

The financing plan, which calls for $300 billion per year in support for developing nations, was immediately assailed as inadequate by a string of delegates.

It's also fairly unlikely that the amount of aid will be anywhere near the promised levels.

General question about Lemmy:

If I as an instance owner search & subscribe to another instance's community, I get "federated" with that community. Does that mean my instance is, or my user is?

Second question:

If I want users at my instance to see posts from communities on other instances, is there a way for me to pull those posts in to my instance? Or, how do I get my users to see other communities' content?
