Related: trying to find NPC art for a woman who isn't super sexy is borderline impossible.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Or find any art for an unnatractive PC/NPC at all. Or at least one that doesn't look like a supermodel.

Why is everyone hot?? Sometimes i just need an ugly pirate or something. Even the monstrous races all just look like attractive humans with a new coat of paint.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Yeah. When I need that I usually put words like old, matron, etc.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Just turn safesearch on

I don't know what you're looking for exactly but there's an SFW-only site with good tagging that might help. Example: https://e926.net/posts?tags=male+solo+feline+sword

Had a look at the first few posts just out of curiosity, and found, in order:

bit of a mixed bag tbh, and I'm surprised it even did that well. I'm a huge fan of e621/e926 (as you can probably guess from the instance my account is on, lol) but it's not the first place I'd go for inspiration. For my two cents, honestly, as much as I hate Pinterest it's honestly probably the way to go here.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

It is a bit of a mixed bag, yeah. There is a tag for tabaxi, but there isn't that much for that so I went with just "feline" as the example. Probably should've also added -puss_in_boots_(character) though.

Either e926 or e621 was supposed to be the Safebooru to the other's Gelbooru. But at a glance it looks like they're both full of porn. So I don't know.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

e621 is the NSFW version

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

e926 is sfw in the sense that it has all the art from e621 that doesn't have visible bits or gore. Expect a lot of extremely suggestive or outright fetishy stuff though.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

If you see an artstyle you like, some of those artists are actually dead cheap to hire ($10 a piece, though the bigger names can easily climb up to $500), and literally all of them will be more than happy to draw pure SFW.

Always good to support artists~

I thought that Tabaxi were in the rulebook specifically for the people who wanted the furry porn.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (3 children)

If my character is attracted to Tabaxi's are they a furry?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Depends on if the setting has a subculture analogous to and named "furry". For standard D&D probably not.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Do they have a Tabaxsona?

... would that look like a crude in-universe character sheet?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (3 children)

That's an interesting question. I think in the real world, being a furry is perceived as an off-putting fetish because anthropomorphic animals are imaginary. In a world where anthropomorphic animals were real, I think it would be relatively common for people to be attracted to them, so your character would probably just be considered normal.

Playing that character still makes you a furry. Sorry.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

That will really depend on how xenophobic the setting is. If it's anywhere near IRL level interspecies attraction will be stated to be OK only in some places and will be frowned upon by many

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

I'm not a furry for playing a tabaxi! I mean, I very much am a furry, but playing a tabaxi has nothing to do with it

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (3 children)

It can be a huge problem. Thankfully, I've been using midjourney for character art for a little over a year now. It's nice. No porn or porn-adjacent art needed. Not that I have a problem with it, I just don't need it in my tabletop game.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

I just wish midjourney could do lamias decently, funny thing is if you try it with the bing dalle3 you have a much better chance of it working but thinks 90 percent of it is porn

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (3 children)

AI art's obviously such a contentious topic for a lot of good reasons, but this is one of the few use cases I think is okay. Because I don't know about all of you, but I blatantly steal a whole bunch of art for the monsters, anyway.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

I for one do not give a shit how many JPGs were shoveled into the draw-anything machine.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Outside of the ethical issues behind the core technology in imagenet and LAION in the first place, and the ethical issue of scraping all the training data, and the ethical issues of replacing skilled and talented artists with robots built from their work...

Actually the more you think about it... there's a lot of ethical issues with Gen-AI.

Let's pretend we don't care about ethics for the moment. A situation like this is one where many people were going to just steal the art anyway.

One of the other problems with AI art is, it's low quality. Do you care about the quality of the art in the purpose you're using it for? - often for ttrpg monster art, people don't care that much, so it's a purpose that AI art can fulfill.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Check out my post history in the character art community here, I'm okay with shitty art for a home game, heheh. But yeah, I know what you mean. There's usually some kind of uncanny overall feel to ai images. The eyes in particular never seem to look right, like there's no intention behind them. Mercifully, the VTT I use has each tile only about 70-100 pixels wide, so as long as you're not zooming in too close, the fucked up details don't really stand out.

Our party has an oread inventor in the team whose token is AIgenned, and although she looks kind of weird, it's not so jarring as to take me out of it at least.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

This is my solution to the problem :)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Agreed. I would feel terrible about it if I didn't just grab all my art from google/pinterest before AI.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

And it's thanks to folks like you that I can hop into the mid journey discord server, search for a few keywords, and generally get an image close to what I'm looking for for free.

Thank you for making my magic the gathering token prints so much easier.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

About the only thing I use AI image generators for is character creation.

EDIT: This is some of my early work. I rely on image prompts rather than word prompts.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

Stable Diffusion AI is pretty good at making furries without the porn part. Or with. I dont judge.

edit: and if you don't know how, hit me up in a DM, I can bang out some stuff.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Disclaimer: some furries might get mad that you'd use AI art instead of commissioning an artist, that said I'm not sure whether that would extend to people outside the community or not

[–] [email protected] -1 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (2 children)

Interesting. From my perspective, asking me to do it is commissioning an artist. Its just using a different toolset. I make lots of art using AI. Never made very many Yiffy before, but I could figure it out quickly. All AI does is change the workflow I have to use to produce art.

edit: Your downvotes have inspired me to use AI to make G-rated furry art. Thanks, Lemmy!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The very concept of "commissioning" an "AI artist" is as ridiculous as it is hilarious.

You see... when you "commission an artist" the first thing you have to do is sit down with them, and describe, in detail, what you want.

All an "AI artist" does is feed what you told them into a robot, get a bunch of low quality shitty facsimiles of art out the other end, then select the least bad one to sell you for money.

But... the effort and time it takes to describe your desired image to another person is just the same effort and time as describing your desired image to the robot. All the "artist" does here is slow down the process then charge you money.

Ever seen Mateusz Skutnik's quote/conversation on the importance of drawing? Probably not because it's just a lore entry from a niche point & click adventure game he made that I love, but here, I think it's to your taste:

  • The importance of drawing.

  • Yes?

  • This is one of the primary rules of exploration. Why?

  • You see, drawing lets you see things. It lets you slow down, focus, tune into the surroundings. See details you'd never notice otherwise.

  • But... Taking pictures and three dimensional scans of locations lets you archive everything.

  • Archive, yes. All those thousands of archived pictures gathering proverbial dust on surveillance data discs, not seen by anyone since the day they were created. Taking photographs is the opposite of drawing. It forces you to stop looking at the object, puts a literal barrier between you and the thing you want to see. You take a picture and move on.

  • But... The amount of data saved is unquestionably of greater value.

  • I don't care about data. If it were data we're after, we would just tap into the subbot route-mapping system. We're looking for the human touch. Human hand in the sea of silent data. I want someone to tell me: Look at this, I found it and it's so important I decided to spend my time drawing it. Nothing that can be done instantaneously has any value.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's more like commissioning a thief, but sure.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Stay mad. AI art isnt going anywhere.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Neither is landfill, and both are about as valuable.

“an ~~ungodly~~ godly amount of furry porn”

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I was just about to ask, doesn't this imply that there is a godly amount of furry porn?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

In the name of Bastet
