After accidentally sitting on my favorite pair today and destroying them, it got me wondering how many pair of shades I’ve owned in my lifetime.

I’m just gonna go with a round number and say about 50. I only buy cheap sunglasses btw

0 unless you count transition lenses. 4 pairs if you do. I don't particularly like them, but I dislike them less than having the sun in my eyes.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Three that I recall. First pair was in my early twenties, some weird blue bug eye mirror things that I thought made me look cool (they didn’t). Second was a pair of Fossil sunglasses in this cool gunmetal color/material with prescription lenses, acquired shortly after the bug sunglasses. Those lasted me for years. Current pair are Raybans with prescription lenses. They’ve lasted quite a few years as well.

I wear normal glasses as well and keep my sunglasses in a case. I’ve never sat on them.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

One.

I wasn't outside all that, I didn't need them until I started driving. By then I wore glasses, so they had to be prescription. I was excited to wear them though!

If I had to guess maybe around 5 pairs of sunglasses, give or take. I own a pretty reliable pair of sunglasses right now that I have had for over a year. These are high quality polarized sunglasses too, maybe a little under a hundred dollars. I kinda wish I got them sooner because I haven't lost them yet surprisingly.

I have only ever had two pairs of sunglasses. The first set when I was a child, and the second set that stays in the car. I dont really go anywhere that would benefit from sunglasses, so that has been enough for me.

I know exactly because I need prescription.

11. So that's roughly one pair every 4 years. Of which I have 10, one of them is at the bottom of a lake somewhere

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Lifetime? Dozens. Hell, I get so many free ones as swag at places it's ridiculous.

I only really wear my one pair though. It's got prescription lenses, so I did kind of splurge on that pair for something nice and would go with everything.

I really like unique or kinda of wild styles though, things that make a statement. So I'd like to be able to wear, afford, and store more. Even as a man, I think accessories round out an outfit and make it look complete. Like a nice watch, the appropriate shoes, jacket, and hat.

100's at least. Just two years ago I bought a shit load wholesale. Minimum you could buy was 30. I have now worn out every pair of those cheap sun glasses and need to get more.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

At least 25. I've lost 2 or 3 in rivers while kayaking. Others have broken or gotten lost in other ways.

I go for cheap polarized glasses so it's not a big loss but still annoying.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

I might have had 1-2 as a kid, probably because I thought it looked cool. But I lost them pretty fast. Other than that I don't see the need for them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I'm like you. But didn't find it cool. I inherited some, so my count is two.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I'm going to guess 20. I wear them a lot. I probably buy a new pair every other year. I go for no-brand, but always polarized.

The leading cause of death is getting scratched up while getting tossed around in the car.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Three. One lost, one broken, one in my drawer.

Thinking about making it four, three doesn't work with some outfits.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Three. I bought a cheap one, discarded it, bought an expensive one later on which I still use and when I moved there was a pair of sun glasses just laying there on a cupboard from the previous tenant. So now that one is in my drawer.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

Maybe 5, mine have to be prescription lenses so I can't just lose or break them.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I've never lost a single pair. The ones I use currently are over 15 years old. I can only remember owning 4 different pairs but there are probably few more that I had in my childhood but no longer remember.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

Why would you have to think about this? Just activate the tism and count them up.

12, if you count transition lenses that I have now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I'm pretty sure I'm in my fourth pair now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Like 50. I used to have a ridiculous amount of sunglasses I got given as free merch. Nowadays I just have a prescription pair of sunglasses I replace every few years

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Transition lenses, baybeeee

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

I buy them in 3 packs on Amazon. $9.95 and it's always in my buy it again list

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have 5 pairs of Oakley square wire sunglasses that I’ve owned for almost 3 decades. Bought most of them with my first paycheck. I just replace the ear socks and nose pieces, and one pair has replacement lenses. I have never owned any other pairs.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I buy my sunglasses in bulk. I only like one kind, but I want multiple color options. I also break and lose them all the time. I probably have 10 pairs in my car ready to go.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

One pair every two years, so maybe seven. Estimating of course.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

I need prescription sunglasses, I am on my fourth pair.

Previous pair was made by Persol, current pair was made by Lindberg.

I take great care avoiding sitting on my sunglasses, they are quite expensive

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've owned five, but have worn/used three.

First pair from age 13 or 14 through to 17. Second pair from 17 until 24. Third pair has seen daily use for over 14 years.

I have replaced the lenses in my third pair once, and have a couple of pairs of spare lenses if the need arises. I already have my next two pairs of sunglasses, bought them maybe eight years ago, just in case.

This doesn't include tinted safety glasses that I wear at work, I usually only get an average of 6-8 months out of those.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Impressive. Sounds like you take your sunglasses game very seriously - especially if you have some on lock down for the future.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I just like the idea of never having to buy another pair of sunglasses. If the next two pairs last as long as my current pair, they should outlast me.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, I don't wear sunglasses

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Well, I wear my sunglasses at night

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

To keep track of the visions in your eyes?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

2 as a child, both lost to time. 4 as an adult, but they are all prescription so I keep track of them and treat them well. 1 of the 4 is so old and banged up it sits in a drawer as a backup, the rest get used to varying degrees.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I lose them all the time. Here is what I use now:

https://www.harborfreight.com/safety/vision-protection/safety-glasses/smoke-lens-safety-glasses-66822.html

They are wraparound, comfortable, shatter resistant, cost $2 a pair when not on sale, and go on sale for $1 a pair fairly often including I think right now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 month ago

I'm calling the fashion police

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 month ago (2 children)

0, I just wear a hat. Wearing sunglasses makes it look like you're trying too hard to look cool.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 month ago

I do both. Bro, I'm just trying to see and not get sunburnt.

Maybe 6. One prescription, and two dollar store pairs. I wear sunglasses pretty much any time I go outside unless there's no sun. Year-round.
