More YouTube slop, and the donations and charity are a sham.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Every thumbnail I have seen of his videos has had his face on them, and everyone of them has had dead eyes.

I can't speak to what he has donated to as I do not know.

Based on his video titles and thumbnails his videos does not appeals to me.

I find clabretro and Ncommander way more interesting, I mean just looking at Intel Express swiches, it's management UI, setting up IE5 for Unix on Solaris, setting up a dial-up ISP, running a PC on a Solaris workstation, setting up SunRay thin clients, finding out why 3D Space Cadet pinball wasn't included with 64bit windows and hearing about the HP Jornada PDA that was used by the Dutch railways, is far more entertaining than what ever Mr. Beast's thumbnails promisses

I have no opinion on Mr Beast, as I only vaguely know who he is, but to me, acts of charity don't belong in public spaces like this. If you are doing something to be kind, it seems you should be doing it discretely. Broadcasting someone else's personal problems to the world and showing how generous you are both seem to go against it being a selfless act. The goal seems to be the attention and profit when it is put on display, as if benefits to the outside party no longer is the only motivation for doing these things. The person receiving the "benefit" is now part of a transactional situation in which their dignity is being traded for publicity of the "giver."

I don't blame the person in need receiving their slice of the benefits, but I also no longer need to feel the giver is owed positive karma, as it has become a profitable transaction for both sides instead of an act of generosity. There's no more goodwill there than someone who sells a used car. Someone that needs transportation has gotten it, but only because a mutual agreement for the exchange was made. It's not like the person gave the other person the car because they needed help.

The money has to come from somewhere. I imagine the more famous he is, the more sponcers he can get, the more money he can pull in, the more money he can give out.

Or maybe I'm wrong. I'm not that educated on the subject, but thats my take. Not my cup of tea, but good for him helping everybody.

My kids have watched Mr Beast, so I'm familiar, and I'm not really a fan, but if his fame gives him more money to hand out tomorrow, and even more to hand out the day after that, I'd rather those views and ad revenue go to the guy who will pass it around than someone who hoards it away.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Fair enough. He's doing something positive, regardless of why possible reason why, so that's still something good.

It's not my way of doing things, but it doesn't need to be. If he was doing anything bad, I'm sure the rumor mill would have it plastered everywhere by now, as big as he is.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

He never gave me money so he's an asshole.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

His circumstances for contributions are irrelevant to the fact he's someone to be grateful for.

Can you please make a quick summary about what's bad about him, for those of us who don't care enough to watch videos on the subject?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I hardly even know who mr. Beast is, but from what i gathered is that he never gives money away to subscribers, fans and people on the street, just friends and family. Like an elaborate money laundering scheme to trick children and slow adults.

Those all sound like clickbait. ~~The answer may shock you.~~

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I haven’t seen any of his work, but reportedly he’s a mega grifter. Not out to make creative stuff for its own sake, but just maximizing clicks. Giving away money, but only because he’s done the math to see that the revenue eclipses the cost. Helping people with sad life stories, but only if he can get it on video and publish it.

And yet he’s like the number one channel or something?

I guess there’s always gonna be something to fill that particular role. But I don’t think it’s worth paying any attention to him as a specific case, more just as a general trend. Like the fact that you gotta clean the grime off the side of your fish tank every now and then.

Maybe it's because I'm so used to even the most established giveaway organizations only giving away like 10% of their earnings intended for charity to actual causes, but if you ask me, charity is charity. If he's going to brag, so what?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

It's not for me. I really didn't even find out who he was until I logged out of Youtube one day to see his videos all over the homepage. Good seeing him making donations but I can't help but think he's an overall negative for the world in general.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 2 months ago

I don't watch Mr Beast or anyone else doing the open-mouth thumbnails, or as TheHatedOne, phrases it "dick sucking facial expressions".

He entertains my kids but gives them a vastly distorted idea of adult life. I think he's a blight on humanity, but maybe I just resent how wealthy people are just as stupid and useless as any of us (often moreso), yet they live lives of leisure and frolic.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 months ago

It's good that he's like sharing his money instead of just hoarding it like other wealthy people, but his content is so annoying.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I find his content incredibly annoying to watch. Especially the editing style with all its rapid cuts as well as the constant shouting. It's made for people with no attention span.

It's nice that he donates to some good causes, but multi-millionaires shouldn't exist in the first place, and donations from rich people won't fix the world.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

It's kind of amazing to see someone with that much money give it away at
