Still work but at a reduced rate and else I would actually think about volunteering or improving my living conditions like a garden or tech at gome :)

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

House in the middle of the woods, with internet connection. It's the weird eremite techno wizard life for me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Kung fu, charitable volunteering, and any intellectual challenge I could take on.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

play more games learn to draw maybe pick up a new language.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I would become an author and write plenty of fiction, poems, short stories. I might also get into game development. And if time permits, I would even pick up on astronomy.

I can answer this because it's true. I work out daily, cook every meal, hangout all day with my dogs, explore YouTube rabbit holes, and read scifi. Without an alarm, I'm suddenly a morning person. Up by five with energy. I'm trying to figure out my next move. Weird thing is, it's probably another career. Just on my terms

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

The same life but without the pressure of a job.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Id probrally learn programming and become a Linux distro/software maintainer for projects like Debian and maybe Libreboot.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I don't think I'd ever leave the makerspace.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Basic needs only? Still work so I can have money to do more than just basic things.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'd throw parties probably, but only if poverty were eliminated for everyone.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

I mean I think you can still throw some parties even before then. Just keep it realistic.

only correct answer

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Spend as much time as I could in nature or playing video games. Or playing video games while in nature. Lots of camping.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Beat on red hot metal with a hammer, and fly hot air balloons.

So all that would change is that my basic needs would actually be met.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

Ride my Motorcycle and brew beer. Then go work out. Hang with friends. Hike, swim, explore the world.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

DM or GM tabletop games for groups

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 week ago

Get a proper sleep.

Find a deserted corner in the Pacific Northwest temperate rainforest, likely up near Haida Gawaii, and just… vanish.

I like civilization in general for the benefits it brings. I even like a few people. But humanity in general…

I truly enjoy solitude.

I achieved this 2 years ago. I spend my time rock climbing, travelling to rock climbing, hanging with friends, lifting, running, tackling little diy projects, working part time in a fun job to get some extra spending money, and trying to sleep with as many hot women as possible.

This is a lot of fun, and I highly recommend it.

Does Lemmy have a FI/RE community?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I haven't seen one...?

Edit: Yes, but it seems dead.

I'd probably teach something like scuba diving.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

I would make handcrafted furniture, work on my garden, and contribute to open source software that supports both farming and woodcrafts.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago

I would work on open-source software and play games, which is what I already do, I'd just have more free time to do it.

I would do nothing while also not stressing out about doing nothing.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago

"Know what I did yesterday? Nothing. I did nothing. And it was everything I thought it would be."

Indie game development. Except more full time instead of just on weekends like I do now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

A) mental health would absolutely improve so I'd have more energy for

B) producing more shows and putting on more events. Personally I don't want to retire because I want to create a career where if I did retire I'd just do what I was doing anyway. I'm kinda doing that now but I have more BS and stress to deal with.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm there. I'm hanging out with friends, spending time in nature, I have a few hobbies, and the rest of the time I'm summoning the wrath of the gods and goddesses to smite the corrupt powers of the world.

So, I'm pretty content.

Read a lot of books. Swim. Go for coffee anytime I could with friends. Volunteer. Sit and stare out the window at the rain. Foster parenting.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

You're describing retirement. And, boy have I spent a LOT of time thinking about what that looks like.

A lot of people have lists of things they'd do, see, learn, or be. I had one too, but it kept fucking changing depending on where I was in life and what my interests were.

Any list I had always felt restrictive. Here's where I ended up instead...

I would put my energy and attention only on the things that I want to put them on at any given time.

I guess some call that living in the moment, but I call it retirement.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

What is retirement? A time when you will have enough money to just exist in whatever way you desire? Sounds fake.

Continue to work and fuck over poor people is very popular.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I'd make a few kids with my wife, make my private pilot license and travel the world with my family by plane (as the pilot, of course). In the meantime I build aviation related open source software.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

I would find work where I enjoy myself, and get a hobby of travelling the world and documenting cultures

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

I'd design and build useful things

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Create art. Writing screenplays and books. Painting, gardening, working out, traveling, seeing live music, volunteer with whatever great organization I happen to be into at the time. Spend more time in my community. Have children.
