The number of cross-border travellers going from Canada to the U.S. dropped by nearly 900,000 in March compared to the same month last year, according to the latest U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data — easily one of the worst year-over-year drops recorded outside of the COVID-19 health crisis.

Disney World gonna be so pissed when their bottom line goes down. The mouse will start shooting.

That's their plan. I'm sure it'll work out for places like Florida that spend in tourist dollars.

She said Trump's rhetoric is unfortunate and she wants prospective Canadian visitors to know they are welcome in California.

They don't even get what the issue is apparently.

We're being warned to leave our phones at home when crossing the border. People are being detained for weeks for visa issues. Our government has issued a travel advisory about how US border guards are screening travellers.

This isn't just "oh, we're upset you hosers are calling us the 51st state, eh."

This is genuine fear of what might happen if we go to your country. A friend of mine was almost in tears because she had non-refundable tickets to go to the states to see a friend and was worried about crossing the border.

Sorry, but it's going to take more than, "please come visit because we like you, really."

This is true. Also, instead of just saying that you are our friends, fucking do something about it. It's your mess, and you aren't getting my money until you clean your own house. It's been a problem for a while, this is just the last straw.

Lol its the governor of California, he can literally only have some control over what happens within California, with a couple of exceptions. PR is probably the main thing he can do. That being said, his PR message is probably not the best. You're right though, Canadians not giving money to the US, red or purple states in particular, can only help encourage Trump voters change their minds.

I've come to the conclusion that it has to get very, very bad in the states before we'll actually do something about it, and by then it's likely to be too late. We're taking the plunge into fascism, and it won't end well.

I really hope I'm wrong. The 50501 protests have been somewhat heartening. But it's hard to see them having a real impact on an actual fascist traitor president who no longer has to care about his own popularity.

So it's hard to imagine this ending in anything but violence.

They don't like you, they like your money.

Those of us who really do like you understand why you don't want to come now. Because even if you are visiting a blue state you still might encounter Trump's thugs at the border. Or ICE could get shooed away from a LAUSD elementary school and decide to randomly grab you off the street outside. You stay out and stay safe, spend your money locally.

If the US wants to self-isolate: let them. They'll find out sooner rather than later what the consequences are.

America will be great again? Well probably more like, poor, distrusted, hated, ignored and alone, but maybe Russians and Chinese think that’s great.

Their idea of great is to split us into two societies. One for the rich and one for the poor, just like the 1890s. Just this time they'll never look into how the other half live

The rockerfellas and Carnegies are back baby, just need a mass shooting of workers trying to organize again.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 3 days ago (1 children)

At least the Rockefellers and Carnegies of the world actually spread some of their wealth around by doing charity. Now, the aim was PR, these guys didn't give a shit about the poors either but at least they knew how to curate an image. Today's billionnaires want to see us actively suffering indefinitely.

Carnegie felt responsible for the deaths of thousands. It wasn't all out of the kindness of his heart.

He did feel some responsibility. This generation of wealthy psychopaths haven't implied they feel a shred.
