1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.
2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)
3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.
4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.
5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.
6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.
Based on some assumptions (the list of your comments a mod deleted and the responses to your deleted comments that weren't deleted), it really looks like you went out of your way to start a fight when you were corrected about how to refer to a marginalized group.
My suggestion would be to block the community and move on. You don't seem to be able to follow their rules and they don't want you there.
Believe whatever you want, I was standing my ground and that's not fighting. That people weren't listening, being unfriendly, not following the rules themselves and were assuming the worst is not my problem but I don't see you pointing that out.

It is mostly children that are the problem IMO, their actual age may vary.
This place had anonymity built in. People take off the social accountability mask they wear in real life and it becomes very evident who they really are to everyone else. A person's true character and ethics become apparent when they have no accountability to anyone but themselves.
Block everyone you see acting like a fool. This place is much better after that. It is only somewhere around 1-5% and a selective bias that makes them stand out. Without them, you will see little difference in this place. I have something like 300 blocked

Jokes aside. In my experience it's strongly specific to communities. On lemmy there are relatively big groups of people with very specific opinions and they are very hardcore about it.
Other then that I don't see that much toxicity. Granted it's not as harmonic as the early days, but that comes with a greater number of users.
