RULES:

I am looking for mods!

1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.

2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)

3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.

4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.

5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.

6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.

I don't know if my experience is rare on this platform but I can't count the times I've either been a target or someone is being a target of another out to grind their axe. It gets quite old and annoying fast.

Like, damn, if I'm saying something at least listen to what I mean before you attack. Why is it so hard to give people the benefit of the doubt or ask clarifying questions first, or argue back in good faith? This place is still full of folks with similar values to be assuming shit.

And, sadly, it's not even restricted to political communities. I find it everywhere creating pointless arguments for no reason.

Ngl, Lemmy is kinda toxic. Someone else just posted about the site being gloomy but I think it's more than that.

(Yes, I do block and try not to engage, but I'm only human. Etc.)

I think you yourself are acting like the people you criticize.

I can't say I'm not frustrated with the quality of comments that I'm getting. It's like people go out of their way to find fault in what I'm saying and it's quite exhausting. But I don't see anyone putting themselves in those shoes.

After all why split that hair in the first place.

Because the commenter is coloring a picture that's not accurate and I want to make it clear it's not so. It's a quick comment that costs me nothing and it's mean to clarify. But now it's a huge deal, holy cow.
