Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try [email protected] or [email protected]

Connect it works great and the dev fixes any issues almost Immediately despite being free.
Boost
Launch that rocket!
I’m on Voyager right now cause it’s like Apollo
Artic is incredible
I have been using Arctic as well. Love it
It's the only full featured app I could find for iOS. Great for admin and moderator actions on the go.
Eternity. It works, and I like the UI.
Voyager
Connect. Reminds me of RiF but also is just nicer to me. I tried a bunch of others at the beginning and stuck with Connect.
I know it hasn't been updated for a while, but sync just works
Boost. It was my preferred Reddit client back before spez Elon-ed Reddit, so when the Lemmy version released, I purchased it to thank the dev for putting in the work to support Lemmy. It made my move to Lemmy super smooth.
I also use Voyager on occasion.
Boost rocks!
Boost dev was how I even found out about lemmy. So I actually followed the app.
Voyager.
Used Sync, but it's not maintained. Liked Connect a lot. But, well, if the platform is open source, why not use an open source client too? Switched to Voyager and I've been very happy with it, actually.
Jerboa. It's not the most functional but it reminds me of RIF the most.
I switch to Sync any time I need to use the search function
Interesting - I use Connect for the same reasons.
the one i wrote myself in rust

well it's nothing more than a minimalist lemmy reader at the moment with markdown rendering, replying, up/down etc. just the stuff you need when you're doing your daily scroll.
i do use it daily and rarely have to use another app to do something but it's by no means full featured. the one thing i would say is that when rendering long posts with 100s of comments is,... it's blazingly fast :)
I like Voyager. It’s just like Apollo. Fuck spez.
Fuck spez.
BIG shout out to Thunder, a great app for both Android and iOS.
It's really nice to use, lots of nice features, I'm really happy with it.
Can I ask, those gestures, are you able to pick only one gesture per side, or can you like, pull "further" to reveal more gestures before releasing?
Yes, yes, and yes.
Oh, intriguing... I'll give it a shot! 🙏
Edit: tried it. Looks cool, very nice app. Although the frame rate of pulling comments, specifically comments only, is very low. Posts are fine, but comments lag visibly, not sure why.
I went through a couple when I first arrived, eventually landed on Connect and haven't had any reason to switch since. solid app for my browsing
Call me boring, but I found Connect first and haven't really looked at anything else.
It's absolutely fit for the purposes I use it for. I'm not sure what criticisms it has, but I certainly haven't found anything to complain about!
Same for Mr, but then I tried more apps, and just couldn't use them. Connect is the best!
Sync (Pro) has been my go-to since my brother referred me to it 10 years ago for Reddit. As soon as it was available for Lemmy I grabbed it. There is a stigma surrounding it, of course, as ad-free is a premium/subscription feature. I truly don't give a shit. I spend my money on far worse things.
There's some discontent around Sync at the moment because of apparent infrequent developer updates that mean it hasn't kept pace with changes to Lemmy. There's nothing wrong with financially supporting developers - quite the opposite - and app development isn't a cakewalk, but it's worth doing a search to get users' opinions before spending the money in this instance.
I've used Connect the most. Also tried Jerboa and Voyager.
The reason is that I prefer a tiny list view with thumbnails on the right, just like old.reddit used to look and RiF could be made to look. I left Reddit due to this. When they cut off 3rd party apps like RiF, there was really no good way to view the site (in my opinion). Connect simply has the settings to make it look and behave exactly how I want it. I think Voyager can be made pretty close too. Jerboa was kind of buggy when I tried it.
I'm sure things have improved in all the apps during the last year, but I've stuck with Connect because it's both stable and flexible enough. It gets frequent updates and issues are fixed quickly. I reported a bug once and the developer got it fixed within hours.
Thunder!
Mobile Browser and Web UI
(Mostly using Tor, because I don't like Lemmy to have my IP address)
I just made the switch from Sync to Summit literally yesterday. Sync was fine for a while but it hadn't been updated in ages (basically since the first major reddit migration wave) and it was starting to suffer as Lemmy incremented a few version numbers and Sync did not. Besides which I was paying a yearly subscription fee for an app that failed to load 2/3 of image posts.
If Sync gets an update I might still recommend it. It's a good app, it just needs maintenance. In the meantime Summit does everything I wanted out of Sync, has an active developer with a Lemmy account, and doesn't cost me money. I think it looks better too but that's personal preference.
Eternity is simply the best, no questions asked.
Used Boost for Reddit, then when the API shenanigans happened I moved to Lemmy. I tried a few apps until Boost was working with Lemmy and I was happy. A few months back I started to notice some unfixed bugs, so I moved to Infinity and am happy again.
Sync without a doubt.
