Parks? Gross. I like parking lots.

The most generous assumption is that they use statistics to determine correlations like this (e.g., deleted selfies resulted in a high CTR for beauty ads so they made that a part of their algo). The least generous interpretation is exactly what you're thinking: an asshole came up with it because it's logical and effective.

Either way, ethics needs to be a bigger part of the programmers education. And we, as a society, need to make algorithms more transparent (at least social media algorithms). Reddit's trending algorithm used to be open source during the good ole days.

I love this band. I have a whole playlist called "Fadies" (fake 80's) with stuff like this and: Mr Kitty - After Dark, Timecop1983, FM-84, Nightstop, Gunship, and admittedly a few songs from the movie Drive.

The Midnight has so many good songs though.

Shittiest week in a long time. I am super sick. I had an argument with a coworker about how to clear up some stuff. He told me I had to go drive to an office; I called the office and they told me they can't do anything for me. But he insisted. So I went. On my way I got a speeding ticket (my first ever ticket). When I got to the office they told me "you shouldn't be here, you need to go do blah blah blah". Just like I said to my coworker. He was annoyed at me for not arguing with them even though I was just following instructions.

Then my mother-in-law had a mini-stroke (a couple of days ago). So that sucks for a variety of reasons. Luckily she's doing quite well. Only a bit of confusion and aphasia.

Overall, it's just been a brutal week. I know it'll get better though. When it rains...

Cool! Installing Arch was surprisingly easy. Just a few minor issues. Plus I have a MacBook Pro with the touch bar (not my choice) and I am struggling to get that working with the recommended packages but beyond that it's not too bad.

I know Arch is all about minimalism, but I'm also limited on time and I just wanted to get a working GUI. Is it a huge faux pas to install all the default packages?

Kung Pao Enter the Fist. Warning: you must be immature and somewhat comfortable with jokes that might not have aged well. I haven't watched it since I was a teen, but I remember thinking it was hilarious back then...

Maybe just stick with Space Balls and The Room.

It's nice to know that they don't even have the propensity to care if I'm trans. They aren't perfect (my cat is a gremlin and my dog loves to dig), but I don't care. They are the best. My dog and cat have comforted me in my worst moments.

We are so lucky to live in a world where pets exist. Domesticated animals weren't a guarantee for us; especially cutesy predators. It's pretty awesome that we have mini wolves and tigers that hang out with us. Their love is pure <3

Also you need a home which means you can't travel if you're homeless. I know that's probably a small subset of air travel, but it's still so scary to think not having a home means you can't get a RealID which means you lose access to a mode of travel.

It's such a horrible concept in general.

Alright. I'll cave and buy my socks and setup Arch.

Fuck that person. They possibly didn't realize you brought your own milkshake to the yard. Damn right. It's better than theirs.

I'm a Software Engineer and I want to feel closer to the trans community. I live in a rural, remote, area and I don't have much of a chance of meeting fellow trans folks. I was wondering if there are publicly "trans" software. E.g., web applications that might help trans individuals, software that's just branded LGBTQ+, trans developers that need help in their repositories, etc. I don't have a ton of free time, but after my child goes to sleep (around 7pm-8pm) I find myself a bit idle. It might be nice to work on something passively a little here and there that supports the trans community in a small way.
