I wonder what option the greens will have from here.

When playing games with the kids, we start at 0 being the position you are currently in, then count from there.

e.g. in snakes and ladders, if you are on spot 30 and roll a 5, tap spot 30 and say "zero", then spot 31 is "one" etc.. till you are at spot 35 saying "five".

Teaches the kids about zero and avoids miss counts from the younger ones counting their current position as "one"

Can you turn me on Greg?

In one of their multitude of inter-nation conflicts; two cities were consumed in nuclear fire. On any sane world; these areas would be abandoned and the area around them a quarantine zone; the humans obviously not being fully sane, rebuilt and flourish.

This is related to the fact that humans along with most of the inhabitants of Sol3, are highly resilient to damage; of all kinds.

Humans reproduce slowly; but even though they generally reproduce not far above replacement rate, their resilience means their population still grows at an exponential rate. And on top of that; their advances in medical technology are on the verge of massive life extension. Soon they will have to move out into space; the galaxy better get ready for them.

You are applying too much classical thinking.

Something in superposition isn't in some unknowable but definite position before measurement.

It is all possible states, at the same time.

Einstein famously did not like the implications of QM, saying "god does not play dice with the universe", though his work on the photo electric effect helped pave the way for QM.

This is the way.

Getting my 5yo to accept that he can peddle and balance by himself; takes longer than the ability. He used to crash once he realized I had stopped balancing him, sometimes it would take a minute or more.

No worries, I don't expect many people have an understanding of what superposition actually means.

The Lemmy crowd probably skews towards those that are likely to understand it, but you never know.

This is just a misunderstanding of superposition.

A superposition is being in all possible states before "collapsing" into a defined state, after interacting with something (a measuring device).

So Schrodinger's immigrant will be in all possible states; they are obviously lazy welfare bums; whilst simultaneously taking all the jobs; and being so poor that they eat your pets; and having the time to organize groups to go raping; whilst also being trustworthy enough to be a housekeeper or nanny

You are correct, it isn't scientific to extrapolate from such a paucity of data. We will have to have more data points to test any hypothesis.

I do indeed.

I also took a job far closer to home last year, I'm only commuting 8 minutes each way now.

Look at this guy, blithely inviting a holy war to his doorstep.

I was reading a comment thread recently.

One commenter stated that they are aware of the people who are "dumber" than them, and if they are not aware the person they are talking to is either similar in intelligence or smarter than they are.

So my question is, do you have this awareness?

Are you conscious of your relative standing in the intelligence hierarchy around you?

And a side point, can you tell a smart person is acting dumb to fit in with those around them?

What arsehole teachers.

I empathize with the mum, worrying about the government cutting the program.... They will be looking for any excuse

What the actual fuck!

Government’s push to fast-track projects in NZ stirs fears deep-sea mining off Taranaki, long opposed by the community, could go ahead

As the title says.

If you don't know the discworld books by Pratchett, Granny Weatherwax it the most formidable character. She is a witch, but doesn't generally use magic to solve problems; preferring to use persuasion and manipulation. In saying that her magic is extremely powerful.

Maybe a bard with huge wisdom, persuasion and intimidation.

Just wow!

What a psycho.

Air New Zealand has abandoned a 2030 goal to cut its carbon emissions, blaming difficulties securing more efficient planes and sustainable jet fuel.

The move makes it the first major carrier to back away from such a climate target.

The airline added it is working on a new short-term target and it remains committed to an industry-wide goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050.

The aviation industry is estimated to produce around 2% of global carbon dioxide emissions, which airlines have been trying to reduce with measures including replacing older aircraft and using fuel from renewable sources.

Just changed my theme to Vaporware dark, it is really funky.

I really like the monospaced font and retro-futuristic look.

I'd hate to see the school trips decline.

Not sure if this is a good thing or not.

HTP's may help stop smoking, or just as likely (in my opinion) increase the rate of people starting.

Seems like a win for the tobacco industry either way.
