Imagine paying money to see 2 fucking ads before a video.
Its like going to the local cinema, ads before the movie.
I went to a Regal Cinema for the first time a few months ago and they played 20 minutes of ads that began at the advertised movie start times. Insane.
I went to my local theater expecting this and ended up missing the first ten minutes of Venom 3. I guess the moral of the story is... Shop local?

Firefox with ad blocker? You are wasting your money.
I have ad blocker on my pc, but pay for youtube premium for the TV app and the youtube music.
Use LibreTube or InnerTune, no need to pay. I've heard good things about SmartTube too
My wife uses a TV to watch YouTube, My kid uses a phone, My other kid uses a tablet.
Saying just use ad block isn't feasible for everyone.
uBlock origin and Sponsorblock work for me on Firefox Android Beta.
SmartTube for TV and ReVanced/uYouPlus for Andriod/IOS devices. SmartTube can be tricky to set up depending on the TV, but the mobile apps are relatively simple to get working.

I haven't watched a single Ad on YouTube on TV (SmartTube), mobile (ReVanced), or PC (Firefox + uBlock origin) since it became unbearable... five years ago or so?
Even on an iPhone, you can use vinegar to block YT ads. Or Firefox Focus.

On a TV use SmartTube. On QN Android device (phone or tablet) use LibreTube (or InnerTune for music)
And then you're stuck constantly reminding every family member which app to use on which device when they come to you because they're getting ads or something isn't working right.
For a single power use that's fine, for a family with kids, it's nearly impossible without going crazy and killing them.
I took the YouTube app from the main screen and let only the smartube app so everyone is forced to use it. Worked
The stock YouTube app can be disabled, and they only have one choice... Works for my kids.
This. Remove/block options that allow ads and keep the ones that filter then.

Do creator even get any real amount of money from the money collected through premium?
Buying premium seems like the dumbest shit imaginable to me.
They get 2/3, as opposed to 55% of ad revenue and nothing from adblock users
They do, and based on reported stats it gets them more per viewer. No idea if anybody's audited those stats though
Not sure about currently but at least a year or two ago creators could see the split of premium views & income vs free views and income and premium views always paid out more
They still can. Whether premium or ad supported views pays more depends on the channel and the value of the adverts that are streamed on it. For channels / topics that advertisers are keen to appear on the ad supported views pay more, for more niche interests the premium views pay more.

But something like $7 for premium without ads is absolutely sustainable. But, you know, line go up more.
Yeah the prices do keep creeping up.. And they should have kept Premium Lite without YT Music
