Documenting hate-speech, conspiracy theories, apologia/revisionism, and general tankie behaviour across the fediverse

What is a Tankie?

Alternatively, a detailed blog post about Tankies.

(caution of bias)

Basic Rules:

Sh.itjust.works Instance rules apply! If you are from other instances, please be mindful of the rules. — Basically, don't be a dick.

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.

Apologia(Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism or any variation of Tankie Ideology. There is no justifying Genocide.

Revisionism — Downplaying or denying atrocities past and present will result in an immediate ban.

If you're violating instance rules, you'll typically be warned. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. Bans typically only last seven days, but repeat infractions will have longer sentences. You may ask to be unbanned.

That's just how it shows up when a community is banned/removed by a local admin though.

They used the same feature as everyone else:

I've used it myself plenty enough.

Fuck Grad, but this part is patently false:

using special code no other instance can access

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You can still access removed or blocked communities while on servers that remove them.

But when you try to do the same with this one on anything Lemmy-dev owned, then it comes up with an error page.

No other server or any other community comes up with an error page.

I can see https://sh.itjust.works/c/[email protected] when logged in as an admin (to be able to unremove it), but it does throw that same couldnt_find_community error message when logged out.

Now try the same using lemmy.ml for this community

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yep, this community is banned from lemmy.ml - no special code or anything suspicious going on.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Willing to bet that they were probably banned because of disinformative conspiratorial crap like this. Is that not why it was banned on World for a short time?

Could be worse, Goat. The lemmy.ml admins (don't think it was the devs though, afaik they don't handle admin work) have defederated my instance because our users while using our instance didn't respect their rules lmao.

https://defed.xyz/check/lemmy.ml (see "Instances defederated by lemmy.ml")

We are quite literally the only defederated instance for political reasons. Everyone else is either porn or straight up CSAM.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

The lemmy.ml admins are the developers, yeah.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Yeah I know they are the head admins, but I remember reading somewhere that they've delegated most of the admin work to other admins on that site. Don't know if it's true, tho. I'm pretty sure the person I spoke to wasn't a dev, for instance.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

Nah the devs carry out admin work too (which is why lemmy development is so damn slow). You can check on their matrix channels.

What do you expect? Communists always block their people from seeing opposing viewpoints, because their ideas don't hold water. They're like a cult.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I actually remember that one youtuber describing it as a “poverty cult”

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago

Thats a good one, Im going to use it.

Seems like there's no explanation regarding this decision whatsoever. This place is less toxic than any other haha look at those conservatives community(not that I'm a big conservative or anything). I've been here since the beginning of this sub and this place has never been homophobic, transphobic, basically, never been dick to anyone. We made fun of tankies and their mental gymnastics and tankies are just as qualified of being a target of mockery as those conservative right-wing qanon bs.

If one of the bigger instances of lemmy such as lemmy.ml and the developer himself is blocking this instance just out of sheer fragility, lemmy as a whole is at quite a stake. I know it's federated and you can always host your own instance to tickle your fancy but c'mon. This kind of shit is why lemmy.world got bigger than lemmy.ml or beehaw in the first place. That's honestly a loss in the big picture.

I hope the dev take some time to recover from reading all the tankie bad posts and unblock this place.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago

The fact that the Lemmy devs are so far gone with weird politics is a really bad sign for adoption seeing as they'll probably be banned from lemmy.ml and won't be able to access the official support sub. If they see admins on subs like this, they'll probably just ban them from their instance.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It's more so, "Can we really trust these guys to be developing Lemmy?"

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It is open source tbh so it could be forked

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't have high hopes even for a fork. Reddit clones tend to attract people who were banned from Reddit and there tends to be a reason for that.

The best thing would be for a third party support community to spring up, possibly with a dedicated instance so that admins don't get locked out of support for wrongthink.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fair, noticed here it's either tankies, racists or a high amount of FOSS nerds.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I've been here for a month and I've only seen a couple of racist comments that's abouts it really. It's mainly tankie stuff that I see

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago

I'm pretty sure that's because the FOSS nerds are working really hard to maintain a high quality experience.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

They get defedd'ed

Ironically them blocking it is just spreading more awareness of it.

I'd have never found this place we're it not for the Tankies pointing it out LOL
