Why can't I expand images and videos beyond this arbitrary border?

I don't use imgur for posting pictures on Lemmy like I used to on Reddit. Am I supposed to?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

I like using Imgur because it offloads the bandwidth to them rather than making instances host it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Is there a better way? I'm new here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Most instances allow direct image uploads.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

I just add it from my gallery. I thought I read that Lemmy uploads don't carry the location data. I may be wrong. If I get a stalker they'll probably die of boredom so....

Sorry, but this post is ridiculous. I hope it's irony. We are on Lemmy for our shared values and in order to uphold them. Standing up for what is important to you despite technical difficulties (especially such minor ones like the one you are dealing with) is a display of integrity. This issue should not motivate you to leave Lemmy for Reddit.

Which values are those? I've seen legit nazis on this platform.

I just want to be able to see images at a proper size. Doesn't seem like a big ask.

Maybe reddit is indeed better for you

I like the idea of my comments belonging to no one (and everyone).

I’ve been very happy with Voyager so far.

I used Boost for reddit for years, so I switched Boost for Lemmy as soon as it became available. It's not free, iirc it was $3 or $4, but it works well and I've had zero issues with it.

I was a die hard Apollo user. Apollo being so incredible is what prompted Spaz to change the API. The competition was just too good.

If you want to go back to reddit because of that, then you never really left reddit

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Can you clarify what you mean by that? It sounds strangely gatekeepy to me, but maybe I'm misunderstanding

[–] [email protected] 24 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

My point is, that this is such a minor thing, compared to why most people left reddit.

Its basically like saying ill go back to my abusive husband, because i like the colours on the walls there.

FYI, lemmy isnt the only interface to the fediverse. you can get the same data from lots of different clients/servers like mbin and piefed

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Hmm, good to know. Thanks!

That's more of a Mlmym problem than a Lemmy problem. Every frontend tends to handle images a little differently.

I don't see an open issue for that problem, yet, though, so might be worth putting one in for the developer to work on.

Done. Thanks!
