Exactly what's happening here is that addressing climate change would affect the executive pay packages and stock dividends of the wealthy few, and they aren't going to allow that, no matter what it takes. So they're employing their political cronies and operatives to hide the truth.
Which neatly demonstrates how it is that the wealthy few are not simply passively harmful, by concentrating too much wealth in too few hands, but actively and deliberately harmful, by using their wealth and the influence it buys to serve their own ill-considered, short-term self-interest no matter the harm it does to other people or even to the civilization of which they're a part.
