*millennial

At 45, I can confidently say that that 30-year old brat is out of control.

Man I just turned 30 on Monday

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

Happy birthday

As a man in my 30s who enjoys VR, good god the kids torment me.

I came up with a decent reply. β€œWhy are you on Oculus, old man?”

β€œOh, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize a bunch of fucking toddlers made the Quest. I’m proud of you guys! I was under the impression that VR was mostly created by my generation, but it’s cool to see your elementary school science project took off like this. Congrats on your A+! You’re building the future.”

Usually shuts them up or makes them fumble and a few kids get on my side with it haha.

I’ve been the old sage sitting in the building in Pavlov Containers giving the youngins life advice. Always a wonderful experience when they aren’t bullying me or when I bump into a fellow old.

That's way too much effort. Just go with the ol "because I got tired of being on your mom".

How it feels to be called a graymuzzle once you hit 30

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

I mean I'll take it at this point. I was talking to someone recently who was 18, and realized I literally was part of the community before they were born

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

a furry? on .world??? I didn't know they existed!

out of curiosity what communities are you subscribed to?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 months ago

From selfhosting to foreskin, grapheneos to costco, chastity to theonion

(not all from .world ofc but I maintain one account only for lemmy. I came from the reddit exodus last year.)

It's why I like Lemmy, it's a safe space for Millennials and Gen X. Neither the boomers or yooths can figure out how to make an account without downloading it from the app store.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (4 children)

You think we are that dumb? 😭 (GenZ)

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Gen Z are quite dumb. Some of them suggested me to modify my game engine to be able to be ran from a browser, I politely decline every time (I still need to move the rendering from the CPU to the GPU, since I figured out how to do retro pixel-perfect graphics, all with color lookup).

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Kinda... yeah.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Old people suck!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You guys are like mid 20s you're not youths. You're old news now.

Ha! You're a baby! Hey everyone, come look at this baby!

[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 months ago

Gen Z here, after creating my mastodon account on an infosec instance and using that for a while, I found out about Lemmy and ditched reddit for good. So after registering on a smaller furry instance through my browser and trying a couple of different apps, I ended up here... not all of us are dumb ipad kids. Don't get me wrong either, most of my generation are indeed a bunch of skibidi-brains... but there's some hope anyways. I think. If we survive the civil unrest, climate change, the coming world war, and the general ignorance of the vast majority of our generation.... ok maybe we are fucked. I guess we can thank the boomers together for that.

I'm gen z and go on Lemmy exclusively through an app.

Most apps have a front-end for the register form, so they could have done it through an app easily.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

Did you make an account through the app?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 months ago

My back hurts

[–] [email protected] 21 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I hate to tell you, but Im pretty sure I've seen both of those gens on here

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (2 children)

But in very small numbers.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago

Some days it feels like everyone on this site is in middle school.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

There's probably more gen z here than you think

[–] [email protected] 13 points 2 months ago

This is how it feels post-30 when you get out of bed in the morning and your body is slightly off balance.

I'm thinking on going back to optical media, for archiving purposes. It's even ransomware-resistant.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

Back in the distant 1990's there wasn't enough solar energy to run our central heating, so we had to burn our CD collections to stay warm.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 months ago

I thought it was about the next step from book burning at first

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago

Why do all of these things make me feel old... I'm gen Z but heavily relate to gen x and millennial when people ask me "wtf does that mean?" and I just say "it was before your time." Like wtf it was "before my time" too... idk I guess that's the only benefit of being adopted by boomers.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

We burned everything back then: books, bras,

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 months ago
[–] [email protected] 19 points 2 months ago

My back suddenly started hurting...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

30 years, on top of another 50 years you mean?

Even if he meant this in hexadecimal base 16, I still wouldn't believe it!:-P

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 months ago

You got to call people out like that... back in my day we disrespected everyone equally online.
