Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

I truly believe Fox News and the likes are one of the greatest evils in America. Think about how much hurt they've caused, how much they've torn families apart and how much they're destroyed our country.

The reason I feel this way has nothing to do with the fact they have a different opinion than I have. It's because they spread hate, division and lies.

We have the power to fight back against Fox News and other propaganda media with the following actions:

  1. Contact their advertisers and demand they stop advertising on Fox. Say you'll boycott them if they continue advertising on Fox.

  2. If you see Fox "News" on a TV in public take action! Depending on the situation you have the following options:

  • Contact the location and demand they change the channel.
  • Ask the receptionist to change the station.
  • Change the channel yourself with a device capable of acting as a universal remote such as your smartphone (use a USB-C or 3.5mm headphone jack IR blaster if your phone doesn't have a built in IR light), certain graphing calculators like the HP 48 series have IR, almost all old PDAs have IR, an actual universal remote if you have one of those (you can even buy some keychain sized ones), or a Flipper Zero. It might even be possible to remove Fox from the channel listing if you're comfortable doing that.
  1. If you have satellite or cable say you don't like the fact that your bill is subsidizing Fox News through carrier fees and that you'd like a way to not have Fox be part of your TV package. Or maybe it's time to cancel your TV subscription with prices being so high nowadays. If you cancel tell them that Fox News was part of the reason you canceled.

  2. Try educating current Fox Views. Consider using the method mentioned in the article or just convince them to stop watching political news all together until they heal from the fear cycle mentioned in the article (process can take a year or two but if can work).

The problem isn't just this one "news" outlet either. Republicans have been eliminating progressive news and media for years.

Republicans have been eliminating progressive news and media for years.

They really haven't... The issue is far deeper than that.

Fear based pushing of media doesn't work so well outside of a cult. The problem atheists have isn't that we don't have our own sunday services, where we teach a different "fire and brimestone" message... Its that those sorts of "tools" just don't work with people broken away from indoctrination.

Way back when, I ran two "new sites": One was a progressive media site, and the other a conservative one (Before I had a stronger moral compass), and running ads on both.

The progressive one earned almost nothing. The conservative one? I was easily bringing in ~$40/month in ad rev, without doing anything, really. I wrote two stories, about the same thing, and just tweaked the language for each to cater to the side I was publishing to.

Oddly, or not, the most commonly clicked ad was penis enlargement pills, and "Hot moms looking to cheat" type ads.

The vast majority of Americans are minimally educated, low-information worker drones. They poison themselves with reality TV, which constantly emphasizes strength over all. Conservative rhetoric sounds strong to them, and so they gravitate to the far right, even though they may know it's against their best interest.

Even if you do all that there’s other channels too now right, like ONN or whatever it’s called. (Not the onion one.)

If you somehow managed to get Fox off of major cable packages, something else would pop up.

We'll defeat them all!

What's happening in America is a new style of coup. It's happening in slow motion and succeeding.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

It's The Business Plot, just being run slower this time.

It didn't tear my family apart. They're all still together watching their hate speech and celebrating genocide. The only thing that changed is I have a lot of free time where I don't have to interact with them anymore.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 12 hours ago

Same. I had to create a new family.

It's something I repeat fairly often, while I hate Trump and the heritage foundation, I absolutely loath the propagandists more than anyone. Without them none of this would be able to happen.

It's the Sean Hannitys, the Laura Ingrams, the Ben Shapiros of the world that make the shit we've gone through possible. I hate them with every fiber of my being and wished hell was real so I'd be sure they suffer at some point. Instead they'll live lives of luxury while destroying the country...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why not also hate the people that funded them? Russia is behind it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 hours ago

Because if it weren't Russia it would be some other country. That doesn't excuse those peoples actions.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You have to be dumb enough for it to work though. The bigger problem is poor education and lack of critical thinking. It makes our country weak. What happened to America's passion to learn?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 hours ago

Since at least the 80s, the GOP has engaged in an active, organized effort to destroy education and promote anti-intellectualism. Fox News is both a cause and effect of that effort.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

What happened to America’s passion to learn?

Unions died.

It's not about politics, it's about morals.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

Apparently most republican males find those morals inside their daughters.

The grab-em-by-the-pussy convicted on 34 counts what's in it for the losers and sucker KIA soldiers guy, is the choice for morals.

The fact that "Christians" fall in behind this fucker means all the churches should be struck down by whatever "God" they pretend to follow.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 hours ago

all the churches should be struck down by whatever “God” they pretend to follow.

I mean, if we wanna throw their own book at them... Revelations calls them out. They're the seven churches.

At some church:

And now bow your head in prayer,

Lord, we just ask you to protect our real President Donnie John Trump from his felony indictments, because we know he's innocent and the justice system is the deep state. He's totally innocent, and all judges are liberal.

And please, Lord, make people stop saying that he cheated on his third wife while she was pregnant with his fifth child with a porn star and then used campaign funds for hush money because, Lord, we know that he could have been witnessing to her when he accidentally dropped his bible he fell into her hoo-ha.

We thank you, Lord, that Lauren Boebert was able to reach across the isle. And give a hand job during a family performance.

And Lord, we thank you for the party of family values and leaders like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who slept with her CrossFit coach and a sex guru while she was married.

And Lord, thank you for the North Carolina legislature that they are able to stay laser focused on what is truly important. They're not distracted by little nuances like being last in teacher pay or 42nd in education, no sir! They're not sidetracked by trivial details like crumbling roads bridges or infrastructure they're able to zero in on what is your will lord which is making sure which potty people go peepee and poo poo in.

Amen!
