The Democrats were voted out of power. Stupid Americans. You voted for this shit. You gotta live with it.

And he took his part by spouting russian propaganda and bashing democrats relentlessy during the election cycle.

Trump wants a "civil war", and he's helping.

It’s like there isn’t enough understanding how fucking stupid of a move this was. It was the worst possible scenario.

Think about yelling at a couple of white chess pieces left in the board “GET ANGRY! Fight!” when the full black set is there minus a couple of pawns.

I’m not saying don’t but you don’t have much to actually do anything with. Protesting and civil disobedience I would think a lot the best options and it doesn’t seem like people have an appetite for those at scale.

But if they Fight Trump they MIGHT Make People's lives Not as Bad and that's COUNTER to the DNC and Chuck Schumer Strategy of MAKING SURE AMERICANS SUFFER!

“with his 4.4 million mostly progressive young male followers on Twitch and YouTube”

LOL the author makes it sound like it’s Timcast or something

There is a pretty diverse audience, it ain’t just “bro dudes”

That's just not how politics works in the US. Politics is a career, or in many cases a stepping stone to a career. They're not there to fight anyone, they're there to achieve their personal ambitions. They're not ideological warriors, they're white collar elites. They don't necessarily have any ideological commitments, and as such they will simply adopt whatever the ideological paradigm is at any given time.

I don't expect any politician to fight Trump, if doing so means compromising their career ambitions. If there's going to be a fight, it has to be fought by the people, not the politicians.

I think it might be time to start harassing politicians to do their jobs.

I don’t even know who this guy is, but getting angry won’t get you anything and violence will only get you killed.

Boycot

Fund raise

Protest

Vote

Those are our options at this point.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 weeks ago

We did all those things, none of them worked.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm of the opinion that MLK Jr. was largely successful because folks saw the alternative was Malcolm X... and they still fought MLK Jr. tooth and nail.

Every change for the good must be backed up with “And we will fight you to the death over this.”

Fourth box.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t even know who this guy is

His uncle was a founder of The Young Turks, and gave him an internship. One day a host was sick so they plugged him in, and then he started streaming on his own.

He's an incredibly wealthy nepo baby who doesn't actually understand politics, just that shit is fucked.

So he can never articulate solutions, he just complains about problems.

His entire business model is getting on twitch. Reading news articles about how fucked shit is, then saying:

Chat, is this fucked? This is fucked, right?

And everyone agrees with him because shit has been fucked for decades.

But you'll never hear give a single solution, so compared to stuff like Cody Johnson I just don't see the appeal. I guess he makes some people feel smart when they agree that shits fucked.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I havent watched him, so cant speak directly for his content, but isn't pointing out problems to a large audience better than not?

If he doesnt know the solutions, why not leave that to someone who does instead of suggesting something that could possibly be harmful?

I think highlighting the real issues to the population is important because right now the blame for everything is wrongly put on immigrants and minorities.

I know Twitch causes echochambers in the channels, but maybe a few right wing people are curious about his stream and it could make them think differently?

He's the current most watched left wing political streamer.

[–] [email protected] 24 points 2 weeks ago

but getting angry won’t get you anything

Being angry is a prerequisite to the things you listed, and also, you forgot the most important item: Organize. There's simply no way America gets a happy ending without a general strike, and the work to make that possible starts now, right this second.

[–] [email protected] 51 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

And he's saying that the Democrats should push for those, basically, instead of doing... check notes nothing.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 2 weeks ago (6 children)

Bernie and AOC just held the largest political rally in Iowa since 08 Obama...

If you think they can be doing more, everyone would love to hear what path is faster.

But we have the DNC and the Dem's most popular politicians doing a nationwide tour whipping up support and explaining why shit is fucked and how we can fix it.

Like, I just don't understand what more people want?

Not the result, but what they should be doing to fix things faster.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

We had a rally. What more do people want

For them to fight for the people. Resist.

Hey now, don't forget the signs they held up quietly while nobody was looking.

[–] [email protected] -5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

"I want more out of AOC and Bernie,” he said. “I want them to channel the anger and resentment that they have towards issues to chip away and undermine Trump's agenda.”

He keeps saying that...

But can't go any further with what he wants.

Dudes acting like a toddler who was told McDonald's ice cream machine is broke. The toddler doesn't have a plan of action, they're just upset. Even when you're actively driving them to a new place to get ice cream, all they know is they don't have any yet

Not sure what else to expect from a nepo baby streamer...

[–] [email protected] 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

But can’t go any further with what he wants.

He's mentioned times and times again that he's convinced there's a wide interest in medicare and reproductive rights. I'm not sure where your expectations from Twitch streamer sits though, maybe you want him to run for president?

EDIT: also, more relevant, the whole "let's not arrest and deport people arbitrarily".

[–] [email protected] -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He’s mentioned times and times again that he’s convinced there’s a wide interest in medicare and reproductive rights.

Things progressive politicians already know, because they're big reasons they're already in office....

also, more relevant, the whole “let’s not arrest and deport people arbitrarily”.

Same answer...

And I still have the same question:

What does anyone expect them to do?

If you think Bernie and AOC can do more, I'm sure they'd love to know how you expect them to accomplish it. Seriously, if you, this nepo streamer, literally anyone has a better path, everyone on the left would love to hear it.

Like, the chair change is huge, and the biggest win we've had in half a century.

We're on our way to get ice cream, we just can't instantly teleport to a new McDonald's, we have to drive there. And no amount of screaming or crying will get there faster. Believe me, everyone in the car would rather be there already

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't find your argumentation convincing at all.

You go from a priori defining the democrats as a party that both already knows public opinion, that enhact the optimal strategies to a point where there's not even the notion of a better strategy, but you never draw the connecting between that and where we are now, historically and politically.

There's two party in your (?) country, and currently one of them is blatantly disregarding human rights.

It's fair to assume the other party has, is, failing in opposing that.

The argument of Piker, of course, is not in good faith. He thinks the democrats are not aequately opposing Trump because, at the end of the day, they are aligned on many front or at least not unaligned enough.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Because the DNC is essentially a dictatorship where the chair has all the power and zero accountability to anyone.

Seriously, the chair could write themselves a $500 million dollar check for consulting and it would be legal, they can do whatever they want and that is a huge problem.

So being mad at the DNC today for anything they did more than 3 months ago is like refusing to watch the new Batman movie because George Clooney's batsuit had bat-nipples on it.

No one is saying you shouldn't be upset at bad things that happened in the past. But holding a completely different group accountable for those past decisions doesn't make any logical sense.

No one working on the latest Batman worked on Clooney's nipple suit.

And no one running the DNC today, was able to make calls about what happened 3 months ago.

I am waiting with trepidation at the imminent collapse of fascism and the return, nay, the renaissance, of the United States of America and, haralded by them, the world at large.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm sorry political change feels slow to the tiktok generation, but at least you seem to understand now.

haralded by them

We can worry about spelling later.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Going by your username I'm older than you, also I've never had a tiktok account.

But yes, I do speak somewhat fluently a foreign languadge, thank you for noticing!

[–] [email protected] -4 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

languadge

Hard not to notice
