Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

Slop is for gossip, the only rule for fake news is that it's OC only. I didn't think "Mark Wahlberg Claims Elon Musk’s Botched Penis Implant Wouldn’t Have Gone Down Like That If He Was Attending Surgeon" was going to set off the "I can't actually tell if this is real and that makes me upset" brigade.

I usually see people post satire in the chapotraphouse comm.

My gripe with the slop comm is that people sometimes post real news stories there. The slop comm says in the sidebar and in the launch announcement that the purpose of the slop comm is discussing "anonymous reactionary bullshit". By that definition, the White House, Trump, Democratic Party, Republican Party should not be posted in the slop comm. If Trump says something stupid, it could be news or politics. If Trump enacts new tariffs, that is a news story, not slop. If the Republican Party or Democrat party says that they are going to do something stupid, that is politics. When the White House, says something bad that is politics. Slop is when a random citizen, voter, redditor, etc says something reactionary.

That's where I've always posted them but I'm getting mod removals now.

I'm not posting outside of Hexbear.

o do we not have an Onion comm here? I thought we did? 🤔

I've always posted them in c/chapotraphouse and it's never been a problem until very recently. Been mulling over that Melina maybe soured some of the user base to the very idea of fake headlines because I still see people complaining about the "Random celebrity found dead in a pile of their own vomit" stuff even though nothing like that has been posted in over a year.

What’s your opinion of From Software just curious?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I see what you're angling at here by the way and it's almost kind of a relief because I assumed it was fairly easy for most people to discern what my old account was.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

I was just curious is all

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 weeks ago

I don't really have a strong opinion about them tbh, I've never really been able to get into the Souls games and I played Elden Ring for maybe 10 hours.

Wait, people actually complain about hardtimes and onion articles? That's baffling. They're silly shitposts that clearly label themselves, it's not at all like the problem of "literally this one poster keeps making 'news' posts where the joke is that it's a lie and not even like a funny one" that c/fakenews was made to quarantine.

The last time I posted an Onion-esque article, again 2 months ago half the comments were telling me to take it elsewhere and someone reported it. I get that there are people who have trouble parsing this kind of stuff but it's easy to check and even when I get got I laugh it off and go about my day.

New comm

C/TheFunyun

Make it happen

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I considered it but it seems sorta silly to make another off shoot that's going to maybe see a couple posts a week.

Either that, or if there's a com for onion articles

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I already mentioned that fake news is OC only

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

Sorry, I have ADHD and didn't read your post close enough.

brigade

Lol, ass

I just don't find that type of post funny and would rather have them blocked at once. I was actually thinking that having the post removed wasn't helping because there wouldn't be a nice place for such posts to reside that I could then block lmao

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm sorry that was a little harsh, the last Onion article I posted two months ago had half the comments complaining about it and apparently got reported, figured this was esoteric enough I was gonna dodge complaints.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, if the post wasn't removed I woulda mentioned that I didn't mean any ill will towards you for making the post lol - the disgusted "ugh" didn't help with the tone though I'm sure.

IMO it's weird that this type of post isn't allowed on c/fakenews, but I admit the mind of the fakenews mod is an enigma to me

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It was originally just containment for Melina posting and I assume they didn't want it to just be Onion articles.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm sure this isn't the right comm for this but it looks like c/feedback got 86'd and I didn't think it was right for main either.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

As far as I can tell, there just is no correct place for meta posts at all
