Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try [email protected] or [email protected]
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

OK, I'll bite. Pedant time.
"BSD" isn't an acronym. It's an initialism.
Acronyms are pronounced as a words rather than reading the letters, and, well, you'd be beatboxing if you pronounced BSD as a word.
Therapy be wild taking CBT for cognitive behavioral therapy when it's been cock and ball torture for so, so long.
"Therapist said I needed CBT. I just walked out. That dude's fucking crazy if he thinks Imma smash my nuts."
SWIFT is not a programming language it's a trading protocol that runs the global financial markets which I'm working very hard to forget but still it deserves respect.
BotW will always mean Best of the Worst to me. Zelda fans should just get over it and spell it out every time. And I like that game.
BLM
Especially since the Bureau of Land Management is regularly talked about in my field.
I have no issue with the civil rights movement tho
Due to anti-DEI policies the agency is now called All Land Management
CP does not mean:
- Cyberpunk
- Club Penguin
- Cleft Palate
- Cerebral ~~Policy~~ Palsy
- Conservative Party
If you're on a Unix terminal it means "copy," anywhere else it means what Josh Duggar is into.
never thought of the anime as bsd. sorta funny. I have to admit magic the gathering became so popular all of a sudden in the news.
MK, Mortal Kombat, not Mario Kart.
CH, ChapulΓn Colorado, not Christina Herrera.
SNK, Shin Nihon Kikaku, not Shingeki no Kyojin.
SNK - Saturday Night Korea!
It's weird seeing news articles about the SEC that have nothing to do with college football.
The Southeastern Conference was founded in 1932. The Securities and Exchange Commission in 1934.
You mean size exclusion chromatography, surely.
Not annoyed but amused. I suffer from IBS. And in my work there are Internal Business Systems. So I suffer from IBS twice.
SRS/GRS is absolutely everywhere as an acronym. It stands for Sex/Gender Reassignment Surgery
HRT too (Hormone Replacement Therapy)
Not annoyed, but i enjoy annoying red hats by taking about how much I appreciate BLM. As soon as they start spouting off I start talking about how we camped on Bureau of Land Management land out west and it was great.
Alternatively, how Brennan Lee Mulligan is a great GM
Also Game Master > General Motors
I read GM as Grand Master (chess). Youβve bastardised it now.
Grand Master (chess) > Game Master > Literal dog shit > General Motors
Better? ;-)
Perfecto.
Muchas gracias
