Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.

Why did they warn him first? How stupid was that?

Democratic Governors need to start flexing some power ASAP.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 month ago (4 children)

If I were a republican voter (I'm not), and the richest man in the world was buying votes for my preferred party, that would be a huge red flag because it's very obvious that my own interests are not well aligned with the richest man in the world.

Arrest is too good for Musk.

Lock him up!

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

I don't think most people get a direct, personal warning of the possibility of being arrested.

Arrest Of Elon Musk For Felony Vote Buying

YES! FINALLY!

Demanded In Wisconsin

Dude, don't tease me like that

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 82 points 1 month ago (3 children)

State law. Rrump can't pardon it away.

[–] KnightontheSun@lemmy.world 151 points 1 month ago (8 children)

Let me know when he's actually arrested and charged.

No way his puppy doesn't pardon him.

Elon is never going to face accountability through the judicial system

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (2 children)

The president can't pardon someone for state crimes.

[–] imrighthere@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Who is going to stop him ? They're already blackbagging people, and you still think there are laws.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

A pardon is just words in the same way a law is. Someone has to implement them, and in this case it would require state officials to act rather than people who can be fired if they don't do it.

[–] nimble@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sorry, He'll executive order. Just like all his other totally legal executive orders.

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

If musk was actually arrested and denied bail, and looked like he might actually face real legal consequences, I would not be terribly surprised if Trump just sent in the feds to strong arm their way into getting them to hand Elon over. They'd probably have some executive order that isn't even remotely legal and basically just use it as a veneer of legitimacy while threatening to take him by force if they don't comply.

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

This isn’t going to happen.

Trump already made a point of saying, in November, after he won, he would go after anyone trying to enforce the Hatch Act. I’ve already posted the 6 min speech several times, it doesn’t show up in Google searches for some reason. YouTube. RFK channel. Trump 1A speech. Green crayon subtitles. 6min.

[–] tisktisk@piefed.social 23 points 1 month ago

How have we not learned from Trump's legacy that there's a net worth threshold that once breached is a permanent get out of jail card?
This isn't complicated--these oligarchs have been definitively above the law since the very first days that laws existed

[–] Psaldorn@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Can't wait to see footage of him melting down in a cell.

No ketamine. No hand servants. Nobody listening to his threats.

[–] tiredofsametab@fedia.io 14 points 1 month ago (4 children)

He will be granted bond and, being rich, bond out almost immediately after any booking. Unless the judge has balls enough to not grant bond, which is doubtful, he's gonna be there all of a couple hours.

Don't Worry! The COURTS are on that! They have their Stern Letters READY TO GO!

[–] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Obtain the warrant now, Wikler.

[–] some_dude@lemm.ee 34 points 1 month ago

Let me just hold my breath real quick

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 108 points 1 month ago (8 children)

Seriously, who would arrest a billionaire? It seems like he has a suit of armor made of money that everyone won't touch. If anyone else walked into the federal agencies and did what he did, they would have been arrested.

[–] trotfox@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Good point, but it goes from attempted arrest to attempt on his life real quick, instead. And he knows it.

[–] 474D@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

"I have the money to have you killed by somebody who has nothing" - solid body armor

[–] Joeffect@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago

Someone who cares about the laws... Fuck this bullshit... Fuck the guy... Fuck the taxes on the normal people being a minor inconvenience for the rich... Equal fucking rights... The only outlet people have for their anger is to protest a company hes the face of... And they are trying to make that into a crime...

It's been 3 months and this is how far we have fallen...

This country has a lot of issues and it's... Not just the deep seeded racism or sexist roots

[–] ravelin@lemmy.ml 62 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Aside from his money, he is also politically important now. I think that protects him more than anything else now. But he bought political importance with his money, so it's related.

If this arrest doesn't happen, democracy is one step closer to the grave.

A lot of shit has happened to destroy democracy so far (has anyone been keeping a list?), but if billionaires see that they can now buy votes, nothing will stop them from doing it over and over again. We will be Russia.

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 1 month ago (3 children)

It isn't gonna happen. Nothing happened to Trump, nothing will happen to Musk. Too rich, too powerful. Justice is only for the pariahs.

Democracy is not a step closer to the grave, it’s already dead, just not buried and so now it’s lying on the street , smelling funny and a tad off-colour.

[–] zephorah@lemm.ee 15 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Trump already announced he plans to prosecute anyone trying to enforce the Hatch Act.

The Hatch Act is what makes this illegal.

[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Prosecute for what, exactly?

[–] CileTheSane@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 month ago

If this arrest doesn't happen, democracy is one step closer to the grave.

Worry not, most Americans are bravely waiting until they have no options left and literally living in squalor before considering any action

In the last 8+ years I have seen the goal post for action moved so many times, I have lost all hope Americans will actually do something for themselves

I guess you won't make fun of French people anymore

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

A lot of people strongly believe that God will protect them from whatever terrible Biblical punishments are going to befall the Liberals, Minorities, and Gays. They seem to forget that the Divine Retribution they are praying for so hard always carries enormous collateral damage. SEE: Ark, Noah's, also Sodom/Gommorah, also Plagues, Egyptian, etc.

Yes. I have too. I honestly think I've moved my own goal posts for action, as well. I think most of the people like me feel truly lost about what to do. We need a Martin Luther King, Jr figure to unite and direct.

I'm at the point where I know he won't face consequences because he's rich. But an arrest and trial would at least be sanity.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago (7 children)

But an arrest and trial would

be an absolute pony show ending with no conviction.

We only have a criminal justice system for the poors. If you want justice for people like Musk, vigilante is the only option.

At this point democracy is so far underground that only a Level 17 necronancer can resurrect it

and its becoming blatant and bold

Muskrat isn't doing this for any other reason other than to test and expand the boundaries. It's challenging the American people .... if he can go this far and allowed to get away with it, then it will become the norm. The fault won't be that he is doing it ... the fault will be the American people who put up with this crap.

I've given up on trying to understand dumb American politicians .... I'm completely disillusioned and lost hope in the American people.

It's not a small group of billionaires that will destroy democracy in America ... it will be an entire nation of people who just stand aside and watch everything burn without saying or doing a thing about it.
