Mods on Lemmy are a bunch of Napoleonic cunts as well. I'm constantly having posts censored and deleted without clear reason or explanation.
News and Discussions about Reddit
Welcome to !reddit. This is a community for all news and discussions about Reddit.
The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules
Rule 1- No brigading.
**You may not encourage brigading any communities or subreddits in any way. **
YSKs are about self-improvement on how to do things.
Rule 2- No illegal or NSFW or gore content.
**No illegal or NSFW or gore content. **
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Posts and comments which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-Reddit posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
Rule 7- You can't harass or disturb other members.
If you vocally harass or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.
your post was removed because it didn't look like it was from a microblog. i think posting the screenshot of the microblog post you got it from would work out. you can check the modlog.
man we went from spacedicks hitting the front page to this
That’s why I’m here. Reddit started getting super censored so I was looking for an alternative and was directed here. It’s fucking ridiculous.
Welcome, sibling! I came over in the rush after the reddit API debacle. Some things I've learned in the last year:
We may not have Sprog here yet, but get to know the environment, including colorful fauna such as:
- Cephalopods that have Colonized the Skies.
- The embodiment of the habitual movements of a space captain.
- People that are kind-of like ossified remains.
- People whose entire self identities revolve around draconic coitus (and all the controversy this brings).
The vast majority of posts are made by, like, ten people, and I'm pretty sure they never sleep. I'm currently unconvinced that Flying Squid isn't just a full colony of Humboldt Squid, constantly ramming into a giant submerged keyboard.
As far as controversies: Avoid the "tankies". You will find them on Hexbear, Lemmy.ml, and lemmygrad. They will not be going away, since the original creator of Lemmy is, apparently, one of them, and seems kind of mad with power. They treat with no man, and are willing to do anything to convince you that authoritarianism is good, as long as it calls itself "socialism". One would think they would have learned their lesson from "National Socialism"... They apparently have not. Not everyone from those servers is a tankie, but most tankies are on those servers. Think of Tankies as the lemmy subspecies of those trolls you shouldn't be feeding.
Contribute to discussions! Especially on a place as small as Lemmy, lurking actively harms the community! Unlike most places, it's generally fairly easy to figure out who's being disingenuous and arguing in bad faith, and most people are very reasonable! (As long as you never say anything bad about Linux. Be forewarned. Do not engage unless your autonomic nervous system runs Arch)
Welcome!
Welcome to Lemmy, bud!
We have lots of Linux and Star Trek memes.
I highly recommend that when you update "all" or your "front page" - be sure to set youe filter for "Hot" results. Gets you the fresh, interesting shit.
I've been over here for a year off and on, Lemmy ain't bad at all, could use some more resistance joining for sure.
When I first joined lemmy was ass. But it has passed the threshold for content to be useable now. I like it.
Well I’m happy to be that.
You're absolutely right. In the past, controversial subreddits like those you mentioned were often more isolated, so action could be taken to address specific problems without impacting the broader community. Those subreddits, while harmful, were often distinct and confined to their own spaces, and actions against them were more contained, with the consequences largely affecting that particular corner of the platform.
However, with the kind of situation you're describing—targeting comment sections or actions like downvoting a harmless post about something as benign as Luigi—the scale feels different. It's less about a specific, harmful community and more about broadening the scope of censorship or intervention to more general discussions. It raises questions about fairness, context, and the impact on people who aren't even involved in the issue at hand. When platforms go after entire communities or actions in a wide-reaching way, it can feel less targeted and more like a blanket response, which doesn't always address the root causes of the issue.
This shift brings up a bigger conversation about how platforms should moderate and whether they are overstepping in policing things that, in previous years, might have been seen as less of an issue.
Does anyone know how to reliably delete an entire reddit account, ideally editing over each comment as well? I did this before they closed off access to the API but upon checking months later, they had reverted all the changes so my account looks like it did before with everything visible.
I have a suspicion that I was followed by a mod who banned me and accused me of "throwing a tantrum" and muting me from contacting him again when I asked him to justify his ban for "promoting violence" when I very plainly hadn't. I kept getting bans for the same thing across various other subs for similar non promotion of violence, rather laughing about the idea of a politician possessed by the ghost of GG Allin ruining their life with antics, and for harrassment for some post that wasn't even deleted when I got my ban, so I have no idea what it even was.
No time for that kind of nonsense. The "you're in trouble for liking the wrong comments" step is the final step into full mean girl pettiness. Reddit has become an HOA.
some large subs can crossban you, if the bots of a specific sub detects you went into a controversial sub they deemed as "brigrade threat". i once commented in joe rogan was immediately banned from 2 subs. eventhough the people on that sub, criticises joe roegan more than it supports him.
Honestly, that sounds like a blessing in disguise.
