I assume the 4chan users have had to find a new base of operations, preferably with developers who actually know how to one do highly complex tasks such as install updates.

4chan has been up again for a while now.

But also, people can be horrible and not be on 4chan too. Just because you like the site doesn't mean there are no horrible people there spewing their shit.
