Welcome to Lemmy.fan!

This instance succeeds on one simple mantra: Be kind, and do unto others as you have done to yourself. Consider for a moment that we're ALL on the the same rapidly-spinning, mostly-watery orb, hurtling through space at fantastic speeds, and trading metal and paper for our livelihoods. The unknown will always dwarf the known. Learning never ends. We may be experts in something, but no one person is an expert in all things.

Given that, here our are very simple

AbstractThis study evaluates the relationship between social media usage and state sad and anxious mood in a sample of young adults (N = 670) in the years 2019 through 2021 using cross-sectional, experimental, and ecological momentary assessment approaches. In our cross-sectional data, objectively measured usage of Instagram and Twitter was not associated with state sad or anxious mood after adjusting for multiple comparisons. We used an experimental design to test the effect of low versus high acute social media usage on state mood and did not find an effect of time spent using social media on state sad or anxious mood. In our ecological momentary assessment sample, participants reported their time spent on social media and state sad and anxious mood six times per day over 7 days, and we found a weak, positive, bidirectional relationship between social media usage and state sad and anxious mood. In this study, evidence for a relationship between social media usage and sad and anxious mood was inconsistent, and effects were small in magnitude. Time spent on social media sites may be less important for mood than other aspects of social media usage, such as the type of content accessed.

I am currently looking at a bunch of books for a project I need to do. I need to find two books, monographs (peer reviewed!), about the same topic but from different perspectives.

The two analysis types I want to compare are Queer and Marxist historiographies. While I was juggling a bunch of topics I settled on the Russian Revolution because I found this book:

Homosexual Desire in Revolutionary Russia: The Regulation of Sexual and Gender Dissent by Dan Healey

Clearly it fits my Queer analysis and all other criteria. I have not read it yet but the reviews make it seem good. The problem I am facing now is finding a Marxist historiography of the Russian Revolution, which you’d think would be easy but for some reason I cannot find a proper work. I did see Walter Rodney’s * The Russian Revolution: A View from the Third World* but I do not know if it is peer reviewed, and the publisher might disqualify it from being right for my project (Dan Healey’s book is published by University of Chicago Press). I don't think it’s a bad book but I am certain my professor would disapprove. While I am not completely locked in to choosing a book from a historian I would prefer it as at my school there is a belief in the “supremacy of the historian” if that makes sense.

So my question is, is there a Marxist historiography of the Russia Revolution in book form? And if you are aware of Rodney’s book being peer reviewed I would appreciate the insight. My school’s library is useless and Reddit has not helped either (they keep giving Trotsky and 10 Days that Shook the World, these are fine and all but not for my project).

Brazil’s new climate pledge, launched at the COP29 climate summit in Baku, aims to cut greenhouse gas emissions by as much as two-thirds by 2035 compared to 2005 levels.

The new pledge makes Brazil one of the first countries to release its latest plan – known as a “nationally determined contribution” (NDC) – ahead of the February 2025 deadline.

Image description: A fantastical scene set in a dark cavern. Twisted, gnarled roots frame a large, glowing entrance in the background, lit by an ethereal blue light. Scattered throughout the cave floor are numerous glowing orbs of varying sizes, emitting a soft light. A solitary figure, cloaked and hooded, stands in the foreground, gazing towards the mysterious light.

Full Generation Parameters:

vibrant colors, extremely detailed, misty, enchanted forest. The twisted, ancient trees create a towering archway overhead, their gnarled, claw-like branches intertwined as if forming a natural portal. Vibrant, glowing orbs of blue and green light hover near the forest floor, casting a surreal glow on the moss-covered ground. Wisps of mist curl around the adventurer's feet, adding an air of mystery. The background fades into a luminous haze, with a radiant light source spilling through the archway, illuminating the scene in soft blues and greens. Tiny glowing particles float in the air, enhancing the magical atmosphere. The mood is a perfect balance of wonder and foreboding, as the adventurer ventures into the unknown.

Niger's junta issued a statement on Friday accusing the EU ambassador in the West African country of dividing a 1.3 million euro fund to assist flood victims between several international NGOs in an non-transparent manner, and without collaborating with the authorities. It ordered an audit into the fund's management as a result.

"The European Union expresses its profound disagreement with the allegations and justifications put forward by the transitional authorities," the EEAS said in a statement. "Consequently, the EU has decided to recall its ambassador from Niamey for consultations in Brussels."

Niger has been under military rule since the junta seized power in a coup in July 2023. Since taking power, the Sahel nation's military rulers have turned their backs on former colonial ruler France and have grown increasingly frosty towards the European Union.

Hello,

I had a working wireguard peer on my laptop, which I didn't want anymore, so I decided to uninstall wireguard. All was well until I restarted the laptop and now I can't access the internet anymore.

I think it's because of some config left over from wireguard, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

Running pop os 22.04.

Any advice?

In January 2021, Liam Sharp tweeted out the following artwork. "I've never shared this before, but it's from a creator-owned story I've been working on that will one day be looking for a home. It's a way-off dream project, but consider this the most premature sneaky peek of all time…"

...

Liam Sharp now posts on social media, saying, "Just got some GREAT news! My 44-page Savage Sword of Conan script has been APPROVED! The job of my dreams starts NOW! I actually wrote the first draft about 25 years ago (it's changed a fair bit since then mind!) so unfinished business in more ways than one!!!"

It was supposed to rain, but we pressed on, and it ended up being beautiful. Chilly but pleasant. Just cold enough to make you appreciate the warm fire. Plus the sound of the river to lull you to sleep.

Hard to beat!
