Then why use the label "Patriarchy"? It has a very specific meaning that I don't feel applies to many western societies and definitely not to the sociatal structure and norms that we happen to live in, regardless of who is in charge. I think we agree on everything but the term.

I hate this way of putting it, especially because it puts the blame on a single gender. It's not JUST men who shoehorn people into gender roles, we all do it.

It's off putting to me and I tend to dismiss the entire thing because it basically says that men being bad also hurts men. Had it said that men also are victims of gender roles I would immediately agree, and I can't imagine that I'm the only one who feels this way.

I'm a software engineer too. I'll tell you what changed. I have a kid. Daycare was shut down, but since both my wife and I can work from home we were expected to do just that. We got to spend a lot of time with the then two year old, but hardly saw each other except for the back of the head because one of us was always working. What was your corona project? Surviving, that's what!

I don't think Musk qualifies, being South African though.

singular they/them has been in use for literally centuries

Even if has been in use since forever, a more appropriate word can be introduced now.

When you have a great programmer working on your project he will be cycled to a new project in 2-3 months. Your new senior developer who silently takes over the project is part time because he's working on finishing his education.

No one knows how anything works, except that one guy, who left the company half a year ago. That's how all software development is.
