Hm thanks for sharing your experience, it's very different from mine though. Have you used Plasma recently (Version 6+) ? And have you used it on a distro where it came pre-packaged? In my (limited) experience any DE installed on Arch is janky out of the box.

Exactly!

In my experience tankies are just people for whom being communist or leftist boils down to "west bad" and therefore everything else must be good. I know, it doesn't make sense.

Empire is empire.

Which Desktop did you settle on as a favorite?

  • Plasma is more similar to Windows
  • Plasma is more customizable
  • Plasma is just as beginner-friendly
  • Plasma has more features
  • Plasma is more actively developed
  • Plasma looks better

Don't get me wrong, Cinnamon is fine, but it gets recommended religiously to beginners for some reason. It just doesn't make sense, so I will keep repeating this, not least to keep alive the ancient linux tradition of Desktop wars.

Still, any Windows to Linux transition is a step forward and I support this, upvoted.

Given the amount of tankies running around on Lemmy, the "liberal" in question is likely an anticapitalist, anarchist, socialist, radical leftist, and the "comrade" is just an authoritarian who wishes they were born in time to lick Stalin's boots and calls everybody who doesn't deepthroat Putin's hairy balls for breakfast a liberal.

But that's just how it feels in this context. In general, yes, communism > capitalist liberalism.

this is a fancy mechanical keyboard and can be programmed. The missing keys are typed using key combinations.

In general I love the reprogrammability of mech keyboards, but this one is fucking weird ngl

Hey, I've been hearing a LOT about the xz backdoor. Crazy story, but rather than reading 10 different articles about it from 3 days ago when the story was quite new, does anybody know a high quality write-up that has all the juicy details and facts? I really like in-depth guides that cover every aspect of the story.

Thanks in advance guys!

Hi!

When I go to https://discuss.tchncs.de/activitypub/externalInteraction?uri=https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ml%2Fc%2Fprivacy

it says "Could not fetch [email protected]"

However the community definitely exists: https://lemmy.ml/c/privacy

Anybody know why this is?

After years of suspecting ADHD (and two decades of struggling), I decided that maybe I have ADHD. While I wait for an answer from the psychologists, I decided to take an online ADHD self-diagnosis questionnaire out of curiosity.

I found myself mousing over and highlighting the text in one of the questions over and over, thinking about something my girlfriend told me the other day, struggling to actually read the question. When I finally read the question, it was:

How often are you easily distracted by external stimuli, like something in your environment or unrelated thoughts?

Safe to say I started laughing out loud. Starting to feel pretty certain that I'm one of you :P

(I am still mid questionnaire)
