Just flat out ask them to take off all of their clothes, you can't lose.

Either they start to backtrack and realize that they do actually have boundaries, or things are about to get sexy. Either way, big win.

Everyone needs that neighborhood watch lady that knows what the fuck is up on the street though.

Pretty sure surveillance grandmas are meme everywhere in eastern Europe lol. Crews of like 3-4 old birds on stoops yelling at kids to quit stealing shit.

I love this clipping. I can't use it since it's got a comma splice, and I can't promote that.

Anything sourced from an individual, such as data, that can be used to manipulate them in unforeseen ways is a part of their person and should be illegal to own, trade, transfer, or delegate in any way except under the strict context of record; I.E. if a customer is recoded in a store on CCTV for security purposes, it should be legal to store that data for a reasonable about of time, only under the context of security. That data should not be used for any other purpose, delegated to a third party service, sold, or transfered to any other entity. It is the sole responsibility of the business to secure this confidential data.

Yes, the micro services internet is garbage and a powderkeg without accountability to the individual citizen that government represents. These businesses should be selling a product to businesses that have a clearly defined responsibility to the citizens woth which transactions occur. There is no such thing as anonymous data, as it has been shown that identity is easily correlated using as little as two sets of data where one is anonymous.

Each individual's metadata is a fundamental and integral part of their person, because this data can be used to manipulate the individual in unforseen and unrelated ways. Owning any such part of a person is a violation of autonomy and agency and should be legislated as digital slavery.

I was the Buyer for a retail chain for 6 years. I know exactly how important data can be, but there is absolutely no justification for the transfer and sale of this data to be used for other purposes or third parties. Nearly the same utility is available by simply monitoring the business side with inventory stock monitoring. Objectively, targeted advertising is not the purpose. None of us are actually getting relevant ads. This has never been the purpose. The data is sold to political parties and government agencies for mass surveillance and misinformation/disinformation campaigns. Ask anyone that has seen the Whitehouse classified news briefing, what you see in the media is completely unrelated to what is happening in the real world. The constant steam of political distractions; it's a denial of service attack to prevent reasonable legislation from passing and closing the loopholes that enable the oligarchy. Your data is going into models that predict how real people will react and calculate the outcome. This is why the best and brightest psychology majors all go into advertising. It was never about targeted ads; it's about manipulation in other spheres of your life that you are very unlikely to understand. Trying to explain this to most people is sadly ineffective. Your data is a fundamental part of your person no different than an arm or a leg that can be used to alter the course of your life, and is therefore encompassed under your right to autonomous agency.

I like how this is a screenshot on Lemmy of a Tumblr reblog, which is screenshotting reddit.

Fax it, scan it, and shred it, and baby you got a stew going

I have neighbors who I swear want passersby to look. Every window is open, the front door is left open and every light is on in the house.

Ask Edward Snowden about the criminal penalties for voyarism.

Until I start getting paid for my data being used for a profit of others then my privacy is a form of self value preservation.

And I'll look out my blinds at you if I want.

I'll take photos, say hi sometimes and wish you a good day. Welcome to a planet full of living creatures.

Watching people on the street in public is very different to staring into someone's house -- their private residence.

Or would you be happy with someone standing in front of your house, taking pictures of everything you do in your front room?

If you saw someone doing that, wouldn't you be tempted to close the blinds?

It's not illegal to monitor someone's smart water meter as it's not encrypted. You can tell whenever they shower or go to the bathroom and then send them a log of their activity. It's not illegal

Do you have a hobby of collecting restraining orders?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

You can't get a restraining order unless the person threatens you. It's also not stalking under my states law.

Always wondered what stalking actually was - I mean paparazzi seem legally well protected.

A new (June 2023) US Supreme Court “standard essentially brushes a street protester with the same stroke as a persistent obsessive who subjects someone to intense and long-term technologically enabled abuse”. Oof.

Incredible way to reply “sus”.

Wondered where that was from:

In Transformers: Age of Extinction, a 20 year old man shows the father of a 17 year old girl a laminated card of a Texas State law to justify him being in a sexual relationship with the 17 year old girl. This actually happens in the movie.

I'm not sure this is true... That's like saying it's OK to enter someone else's house because they accidentally left the door open. Just because it isn't encrypted doesn't mean it's meant for you to listen to.

Edit: I was under the impression that most smart meters used 4G (at least in the US)... Pretty sure it's illegal to listen to cell communications.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

They use an open frequency, not the cell network. You can use an inexpensive rtl-sdr to monitor them. People do it all the time to integrate their meter with home assistant.

It's no different than looking at someone's WiFi network name.

I think your understanding of the law is sadly lacking and would definitely get you arrested.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (2 children)

If it's an open radio signal then it's not illegal to listen to it. It's no different than a radio station.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Yeah -- I think you are wildly wrong about that.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Potentially not, but if you do that + send them a log of your activity then you've absolutely opened yourself up to an investigation.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Investigation of what exactly? There's nothing illegal about it if you don't make any threats. You could follow someone around and take pictures and notes on them too, not illegal.

Text messages: Written or typed messages sent electronically, typically via mobile phones or other digital devices.

Voicemails: Recorded audio messages left on voicemail systems or digital recording devices.

Videos: Visual recordings, either in the form of video clips or other visual media, capturing incidents related to the stalking.

Cards, photos, or letters: Physical or digital materials like greeting cards, photographs, or written correspondences that may have been sent by the stalker.

Unwanted gifts or items: Physical objects or digital transfers of items that were given to the victim without their consent or desire.

Social media friend requests or following: Instances where the stalker attempted to connect with or monitor the victim through social media platforms.

Emails: Digital messages sent through electronic mail services, often containing relevant information or threats.

--

This is just a list of information I found on what counts as evidence stalking.

Do whatever you want dude, good luck. Lemme know how it goes!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

The rule are different for public figures. They're not allowed to retaliate for public participation.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Creepy and stalkery, though.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 9 months ago

Do it to your local council so they know how it feels.
