could anyone tell me how is the experience for this game on a steamdeck, cause the fps fluctuates from 40 to 200 during firefights with a 3080ti, and requires pinpoint aiming.

commit to Steam Deck and Linux

That is taking a lot of liberties with the wording here.

  1. They only committed to not intentionally breaking Proton. They did not commit to "supporting" anything.

  2. They didn't say anything about Linux, specifically.

Honestly been loving the finals - so much fun and I haven't bothered spending a dime.

Except buying the soundtrack on Bandcamp for a copy. That was 100% worth it.

i don't think i've ever heard of this game.

i also don't understand how they think they can get around kernel-level stuff just being unfeasible on linux.

It's honestly a great game. Fantastic movement, gunplay, and level destruction paired with unique game modes. I haven't enjoyed a shooter this much in literal decades.

It's free to play, which does come with it's own hurdles. If there are enough cheaters, it really does make the game miserable to play. And then people who are just very good start getting constantly accused of hacking...

That said, you can't stop all cheating, and the kernal based approach is always overkill. We'll see what they do.

not really into shooters anymore. arma 3 was probably the last one i spent any time with.

looks like the kernel level anticheat is still not effective, judging from other comments in the thread. the easiest way to fix this is of course with proper dedicated servers and an invite system, but nobody seems to want to do that anymore

Ah, yeah, this one is a very silly, chaotic, and fast paced shooter, so maybe not great coming from Arma :D

The Finals does have private game servers, but not dedicated servers. It's definitely lame that they don't include them.

I don't want kernel level anticheats PERIOD

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

All the big anti cheat systems offer Linux (Proton) compatibility. It's not kernel level on Linux.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

doesn't that mean it's functionally useless?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I mean, there are cheats that work on kernel level anti cheats. They have always been useless.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago

Its able making the barrier of entry so high that the game isnt flooded with cheaters.

Well, that's like...great and all. Is this game a big deal though? I played it a few hours and it never really hit with me. The movement was cool, but the actual gameplay was like Parkour Payday.

i like it better than apex legends

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's becoming a pretty low bar though. The only thing I miss from apex is decent sight picture, the finals (last time I played) had no color customization and some lmg sights had messed up reticle sizes

It has an average daily peak of 20k players so i think it is somewhat important.

I know zero people who play it, so let me into the inside knowledge about it.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

My friends and I play it nightly, because it's a good casual FPS and it has many modes, decent progression. Honestly environment destruction is such a powerful mechanic for making games have variability between games that it makes each feel unique - like a puzzle even at times.

There's not a great deal of free games right now that are capturing our attention, we wanted an FPS this month, and there's been no paid games everyone's been willing to jump on.

Funny enough we're waiting on Arc Raiders to drop which is also a game by the studio behind The Finals.

Can you rephrase this in a way that isn't an ad? 😂

"I know zero people who play it, so let me into the inside knowledge about it. "

"Hi, my friends and I play it. We're people. Here's why we like it."

"You sound like an ad".

My brother in Christ, you asked for someone to tell you about the game and then I did - wtf did you think was going to happen. I'm not even really giving it a glowing review. I'm mostly saying there's not a lot of great competition in the scene right now and this game does enough good to be fun to play. At the cost of free, my poorer friends are happy to play it while we wait for the next paid game we know we want to get.

I'd love to be playing Nightreign but it's not good enough for them to buy in, and other games like... Oh what's that extraction shooter by the original Hell Let Loose team... Hunger? That's not out yet.

Like ya dawg, I like The Finals - I'm a guy on the Internet responding to a comment from a random about the Finals. That's a pretty safe bet.

Still a bot.

Everything they said is factual. Games are subjective, either try it yourself or watch someone else lol

Because of the physics and destruction along with all the unique weapons and gadgets each of the 3 classes has, you can be really creative in your play style.

There's multiple modes to play, from more casual ones like power shift, here you try to push a platform from the middle to the enemy side by occupying it while the enemy tries to push it the opposite way. The main game mode is Cashout, which will have you stealing increasingly valuable vaults and depositing them at Cashout stations. Once they're in there, they have a countdown of about a minute or so (I'm not sure about exact timing) during which any other team can try to steal, so it comes down to defending it or losing your cash. Kills also grant cash. Team with the most cash wins.

Ranked play consists of tournaments, several rounds of Cashout where the poorest two of four teams get eliminated at each stage until only two are left.

If you're interested in cosmetics, the game has hands down the best system by far in my opinion and the cosmetics themselves look absolutely gorgeous.

The monetization is generally pretty player friendly, you can buy individual items from a bundle which will then decrease the bundle price by that items value if you decide to get it so there's no pressure to buy bundles but you can always change your mind at no extra cost. You can get previous battle passes now in case you missed them. Only thing is that they have a controversial "premium" battle pass now.

The sponsor system is really fun and provides a fun in-game integration of the lore of the game along with progression systems and free rewards.

There's just a lot of love put into the game and it tries to be on the side of the user. The devs generally listen.

It's the best game that didn't take off in my opinion.

I love this game.

Did they ever make the controller auto aim less ridiculous?
