fuck yeah. does chaos mod still work? I miss a good grappling hook.
I haven't tested it but it should work. OldUnreal's patches are backwards compatible.
GODLIKE!!!!
M-M-M MONSTER KILL!!!
I really like the idea of this. I'm going to book mark the link and never click it.
I'm surprised Digital Extremes isn't mentioned. Did they sell off their stake at some point?
I better make sure I have my Unreal games installed because there's about to be a small influx of old and new players for about a month
I still play 1999 GOTY Edition UT.
Don't let Sweeney hear about this.
UNSTOPPABLE!!
For anyone that hasn't played UT99, try it. There are still plenty of servers with active lobbies. I have played this game on and off since release.
Facing Worlds iconic baby
I can only imagine the level of sealclubbing that’s about to begin.
I just want to pilot a Redeemer one. Last. Time.
(because I killed myself with it too)
This is so much better than a remake or remaster.
id Software led the way, decades ago, making Doom and then Quake engines open source. I wish more studios would donate their old software to the public domain.
Fingers crossed one day we will get Unreal source code. I wonder if it even still exists.
Old Bungie also opened up the Marathon engine and released the assets before the Microsoft takeover. You can play that game on any modern platform while Oni is lingering in abandonedware land, unplayable and unprofitable.
IIRC it has been 10 years since Tim Sweeney talked about open sourcing UE1. I don't think it is gonna happen anytime soon, sadly.
At least we still have Surreal Engine.
Hell yeah, that's awfully nice of them. I have fond memories of playing Unreal Tournament '99
Holy shit, that's awesome! Finally Epic is doing some good. Let's hope Sweeney doesn't swoop in to stop it.
Considering the OldUnreal team still has access to the source code for these two games, and develop patches for them to this day, I find it, thankfully, extremely unlikely!
