Learning how to use an atlatl and using it spear throw would be a good hobby, can anyone give me some pointers for groups and equipment.

"Experimental archaeology" might be a good search term for finding resources on how to make and use an atlatl.

I've never heard of this. I watched a bunch of you're videos on it. It. Is. Awesome.

This may come off as a dumb question, but would javelin be a better search term?

Depends what you're looking for. Atlatls use a "spear thrower" to throw the spear. This is inherently different from spears and javelins, and in fact uses some of the mechanics of how arrows work to gain effectiveness.

There are a few places online where you can learn more, and there are a couple places in America where you can buy sets for personal use. Seeing someone hunt a wild pig with one of those is pretty impressive.

What's with atlatls trending atm, is there some spear throwing shit going on on TikTok or something?

Nah, its just I find it really cool because its the oldest weapon in the world. (Apart from the spear itself) and it looks like great exercise as well as giving me a path for improving the skill itself.

It's crazy, I organically got into the topic of spear throwing after reading Alaska by James Michener, just to learn that it's a trend online?? We really are in a simulation.
