Lemmy: GET THESE SUPER OLD RICH WHITE GUYS OUT OF POLITICS!

also Lemmy: VOTE BERNIE!!

Pick a lane guys. Forget Bernie, find some young candidates

I am uncomfortable with the amount of decapitation going on in this suggested solution.

I love Bernie with all my heart. But he is too old. We need a next-generation Bernie Sanders, not quite as publicly grating as AOC, but I'd really love to see her elected in 8 years. Maybe Pete Buttigieg? Who did Bernie groom to succeed him?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

How is mayo Pete in the same league as Bernie or AOC?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

He's not, as sad as it is, that's why he'll have an easier time getting elected. I'd want a democratic socialist or social democrat in the White House, but let's not fool ourselves... the overton window isn't there yet.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

gotcha but even wrt charisma .. i feel like mayo Petes only useful quality is hes white and straight passing to the point of rizzlessness.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

I suspect Bernie would also say he's too old, he hasn't made another campaign run after all.

I also suspect he's not much for grooming people to follow in his footsteps.

I thought the swap failed and the trap activated

They belong in a MUSEUM !

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago

They have to choose someone younger just so they can make age an issue for trump.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 3 months ago

Yes, nominate a different 100 year old man. That will put dem voters' minds at ease.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Like I posted in the news mega thread, even if he died day one his admin would interest me far above any of the democratic party options and he’s probably the only politician I would trust on Palestine. Ofc that’s exactly why they (the party) wouldn’t do it.

Ngl they fucked Bernie over with Biden in that election I swear down since Bidens health issues was a talk of the town, even back then. He needs his justice served fr.

Please no. He's older than Biden.

Don't get me wrong. His policy decisions would be amazing. But there's no way he'd be able to do a second term in 4 more years.

The fuckup that Biden made wasn't running in 2024. It was running in 2020. And Sanders winning a first term this November would be much worse.

Maybe Bernie should get a cabinet position.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Now this I can get behind

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

The only way Bernie can win a position of power is by revolt of the bases through the primaries, because the party establishment is not going to allow it any other way. Aside from his political leanings, having him gain relevance now when the paradigm is "how could we end up with such a dinosaur at the helm?" is almost impossible, even though he is by all means more sentient than both Biden and Trump. Still, I think it would be good.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

There's no need to do a second term. Just fill the gap now to win and push for more progressive policies. This set up the next generation to take over in '28.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah, but the incumbant historically has had an advantage. If Bernie only served one term, the next Democratic nominee after him wouldn't have the advantage that someone willing and capable of serving two terms would. And that would risk a Republican win in 2028.

[–] [email protected] 88 points 3 months ago (3 children)

One one hand, hell yeah. One the other hand, he's older than Biden and has heart disease.

Make him VP to Harris and I'm ready to go.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

I honestly think Bernie can do more good as a senator than as vp.

I'm on-board with anything to defeat diaper Don. Give me Mitt fuckin' Romney as VP. As long as it guarantees fascism doesn't win, I'm all for any candidate that can get the votes. If that takes a coalition like France just had and some compromise, so be it. I don't think we'll see a traditional R and D party split like in the past. Now it's all against F.

Defeat fascists at all cost.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 3 months ago

That would be the best timeline.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 3 months ago

That’s what I’m talkin about

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago
[–] [email protected] -3 points 3 months ago (3 children)

Even though he's old, I think it'd still work. By keeping her as VP there's continuity of Biden's administration and she's ready to take over if he doesn't complete the term. He has broad appeal with Independents which will bolster their chances of winning in November.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I hear Jimmy Carter is available.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Just saying that a lot of folks are over the gerontocracy, and even though Sanders is great, his age is going to be a tough sell.

Also, Harris is already on the ballot, she’s the backup voters already picked, and the campaign apparatus and war chest would just roll into her now.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have nothing against Harris, but we already have people whining about the primary that was basically unopposed for Biden. I don't know that the US voting system is organized enough to crank out another primary, but it might be worthwhile.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago

I don't know that the US voting system is organized enough to crank out another primary, but it might be worthwhile.

Not. A chance. In hell.

You can have who Biden endorses, or you can have a floor fight in two months. That’s it. There are no other options available.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Biden would still work. At this point it would be incredibly stupid to pick an even older person than Biden. Bernie as VP to literally any younger person would be a huge boon.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

In case you aren't aware, Biden just dropped out.

Bernie as VP would be a bit of a waste. VPs don't do much other than push for their leader's agenda. A younger Progressive would be great, but at this late in the game could be very risky unless they've already been tested on a national stage.

Don't give me false hope
