Lefty Memes

341 users here now

An international (English speaking) socialist Lemmy community free of the "ML" influence of instances like lemmy.ml and lemmygrad. This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

If you are new to socialism, you can ask questions and find resources over on c/Socialism101.

Please don't forget to help keep this community clean by reporting rule violations, updooting good contributions and downdooting those of low-quality!

Rules

Version without spoilers

0. Only post socialist memes

That refers to funny image macros and means that generally videos and screenshots are not allowed. Exceptions include explicitly humorous and short videos, as well as (social media) screenshots depicting a funny situation, joke, or joke picture relating to socialist movements, theory, societal issues, or political opponents. Examples would be the classic case of humorous Tumblr or Twitter posts/threads. (and no, agitprop text does not count as a meme)

1. Socialist Unity in the form of mutual respect and good faith interactions is enforced here

Try to keep an open mind, other schools of thought may offer points of view and analyses you haven't considered yet. Also: This is not a place for the Idealism vs. Materialism or rather Anarchism vs. Marxism debate(s), for that please visit c/AnarchismVsMarxism.

2. Anti-Imperialism means recognizing capitalist states like Russia and China as such

That means condemning (their) imperialism, even if it is of the "anti-USA" flavor.

3. No liberalism, (right-wing) revisionism or reactionaries.

That includes so called: Social Democracy, Democratic Socialism, Dengism, Market Socialism, Patriotic Socialism, National Bolshevism, Anarcho-Capitalism etc. . Anti-Socialist people and content have no place here, as well as the variety of "Marxist"-"Leninists" seen on lemmygrad and more specifically GenZedong (actual ML's are welcome as long as they agree to the rules and don't just copy paste/larp about stuff from a hundred years ago).

4. No Bigotry.

The only dangerous minority is the rich.

5. Don't demonize previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

We must constructively learn from their mistakes, while acknowledging their achievements and recognizing when they have strayed away from socialist principles.

(if you are reading the rules to apply for modding this community, mention "Mantic Minotaur" when answering question 2)

6. Don't idolize/glorify previous and current socialist experiments or (leading) individuals.

Notable achievements in all spheres of society were made by various socialist/people's/democratic republics around the world. Mistakes, however, were made as well: bureaucratic castes of parasitic elites - as well as reactionary cults of personality - were established, many things were mismanaged and prejudice and bigotry sometimes replaced internationalism and progressiveness.

During the testimony, Warren's attorney, Jean-Jacques Cabou asked those within DeSantis' administration what "woke" meant to them.

The governor's general counsel, Ryan Newman, said, in general, it means "the belief there are systemic injustices in American society and the need to address them."

They know what Woke means, and it's just as fucking backwards and asinine as you'd expect. Imagine trying to criminalize people fighting for equality. It's the only word I'm aware of that is simultaneously classist, racist, misogynistic, and anti-lgbtq thanks to how the right have chosen to use it.

Conservatives when you ask them to define anything*

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

I don’t know why it’s so hard. I means “Things I don’t like, especially when it pertains to anything that could be called liberal.”

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

Conservative 1: Wake up people!!

Conservative 2: Don't be woke!!

What do?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

That's easy, woke is identity politics is virtue signaling is political correctness is...

In fash doublespeak woke just means not "white". That's why they can't/won't explain. It's no mystery.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago

It can mean "not a man", "not cis" and "not straight" too

[–] [email protected] 39 points 4 months ago (2 children)

The other day a conservative on Lemmy (!) called me a wokeboi blueanon, so I am qualified to help with the definition:

Awareness of structural and systematic inequality and oppression and the need for radical (systematic) reforms for same.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 4 months ago (2 children)

So going by context, and correct me if I’m wrong here, but doesn’t the existence of “blueanon” imply that conservatives who use the word recognize that Q is bullshit?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

I think it more so derives from the same place Q derives from rather than deriving from Q himself.

Chanboard users refer to each other as anons. I am still somewhat confused, as the conservative would presumably refer to op disparagingly as a "blue[British word for ciggie]" as opposed to "blueanon", seeing as how "anon" has connotations of comradery. This is further compounded by the fact that we have usernames. We're not anonymous. We're pseudononymous.

If I had to guess, this is due to moderation preventing the use of slurs in regular speech in most regions of Lemmy.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 4 months ago

I am not adequately trained or compensated to untangle such a cobweb of bullshit

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (2 children)

Called you a what? The hell is "blueanon"?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago (4 children)

left-leaning anon probably

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

Wouldn't left-leaning anon be redanon? Color of communist parties is red.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Us centric, the colors are reversed (ish, as the democratic party isn't really a left wing party).

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (2 children)

But isn't anon fundamentally right wing in it's ideology? I mean, I'm no expert but this feels like calling someone a meat eating vegan.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ahhh, Qanon had just ruined that one for me I guess, fair call out

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

As I have said when replying to another fellow, the use of anon is still baffling here.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Blue version of an anon, I guess?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Pretty sure it's supposed to be specifically hard-left, maybe conspiracy oriented (because they would assume Trump's Russian ties and criminal guilt are a conspiracy theory), equivalent to Qanon but on the other side.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (3 children)

Urr, but why would that be "blue"?

Edit: oh wait, the US Democrat color is blue?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago

Yes, it's the reverse of how it is in Canada or the UK.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 4 months ago

Urr, but why would that be "blue"?

Gay

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

Yeah, blue and red are often used to describe the Democrats and Republicans, respectively.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

Not even to my face, the coward

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It's kinda funny to think that the "woke mind virus" is actually real, just the exact opposite of what conservatives think it is. Something that they are spewing around, and its effects are lack of critical thought x)

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Just like Trump Derangement Syndrome

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

The world was better when we had Lisztomania instead

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

Well, it's whatever you guys are up to.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 months ago

They can't even give the original definition as the past tense of wake.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago

they know what it means (or rather what it means when they proudly claim to be "anti-woke") they just won't explain it because then it will be obvious that they don't actually care about equality or "fairness" and just want to go back to the social order of the 1700s

[–] [email protected] 30 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Woke is the new words conservatives have to learn because they’ve used the old ones as bully words for so long they’ve taken new and derogatory meanings.

Not that they’ll read that but here’s part of the test answer for those who can.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 4 months ago

Conservative and certain Blue MAGA Liberals can't seem to understand the definition of Tankie(s). They like to think it means any communist. They are a special of dumb dumbs.
