Went out with an old friend tonight who reached out and asked me to a game of warewolf (similar to mafia) at a pub in Balaclava. First Tuesday of the month if anyone's keen for a bluffing game with randomly assigned roles. Really friendly bunch of people.

Cried with frustration at the end of tonight's rebound session. Mostly frustration with myself. Unfortunately the trainer noticed and so everyone noticed. She (and everyone else) was absolutely lovely about it and I know I'll go back, but wahhh.

Yeah, mini trampolines! It's really fun but really tough and absolutely kills the lower sides of my legs. Need to come up with some stretches and/or strength exercises for that area. Would have asked the trainer, but ya know, the crying.

The outer sides of the calves are the peroneal muscles if that'll help direct your stretch research. Exrx.net is an old site with a lot of anatomy / exercise resources.

Thank you so much! That looks like a great place to start. Appreciate that! :)

My brain is fried. 24 hours of work in 2 days. Trying to eat some veggies and then suddenly

You get a little nip on the arm.

Why?

because fuck you that's why!!

A few minutes later you settle back in to finish dinner. Your turn your head to this

You give up and go get the treats.

It might help you to learn about their evolution - they look weird AF and creepy because they come from the sea - I had arachnophobia, and while I still get that initial shock at seeing one, I can rationalise my way out of it now. That's because I basically did a sort of 'exposure therapy' on myself by learning about their evolution, behaviours and biology. The Tarantula subreddit helped immensely - seeing a male lying upside in his wank-blanket (or wanket) is the stupidest looking thing ever πŸ˜‚

Here is an example of a male tarantula wanking off into his badly made wanket πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

these are harmless

There is also a cheeky pupster, she already stole my breakfast buns from the bag when the car was being unpacked

the buns were gone is one sec and then she ran away around the corner because she knew she was naughty , but she's cute

this country is also obsessed with feijoa fruits πŸ˜ƒ

There is an excursion on tomorrow as part of this work conference. It's going to be cold and miserable so I simply Will Not Go.

Everyone on the excursion will think I'm at the office. Everyone at the office will think I'm on the excursion. I will stay home and actually get some work done

Today absolutely frigging dragged on - I really am due for some fieldwork so I can get out in the fresh air again but nothing coming up for a while :c

I might get moving on my plans to be away in August.

I'm so torn between (a) ending my lease and dumping my shit in storage, or (b) just leaving everything at this rental and going away then coming back.

(a) is much, much more cathartic and closer to my heart... but also challenging and stressful in the short term, and more expensive in the short term due to moving. But does give me the option to extend my break or travel while working remotely if I decide to do that

(b) is easier and cheaper in the short term but psychologically I feel like I won't get that satisfaction of closing off the past and moving into a new phase of my life with new aims, habits, etc. coming back to this place could see me falling back into a rut because it's the easy choice. Also will get more expensive if I stay away for longer.

I'm giving myself a week max to sleep on it and decide. At this point I know I'll be away for a month and the rent is 400/week so financially it'll only make more sense to dump into storage maybe if I'm away for three months or more. But it isn't just the finances... I desperately need to shake things up!

Raging cat fight in the backyard. Not enough light to see who is involved. Set the neighbours dog off too. Just what we need World War Fury.

@StudSpud The Starchy I think you'd enjoy this video - one of my favorite channels.

middle english anecdote

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Sorry I just saw this lol! Incredible that you can really hear how Germanic middle English sounded!! Fascinating!

Me, several beers in: what the fuck am I listening to here πŸ˜–

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

It's a portion of the Reeve's Tale from the Canterbury Tales by Chaucer. There's a repeat at the end with subtitles. Both the original and modern inglish.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Interesting! I could understand bits of it

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I saw some Worcestershire sauce crinkle cut chips at aldi today and thought of you.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ooohh must have! Will do research at local Aldi (both of them) to see if there's any left.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

I think I tweaked my shoulder/neck today.

Only did a slight movement and felt that sharp pain. Now it’s sore :(

Miniest didn't get an offer from her first choice of high school. I came home to a little girl crying in her bedroom, in bed with the curtains closed. I explained that it's part of the process and probably ed dept policy for every child to be offered a place at a school in their catchment area. We still have an appointment with them later this month.. on the very day appeals must be lodged by. So there's still a (probably slim) chance. But πŸ’”

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

That's tough news for her. Hopefully the meeting with the preferred school goes well. From my understanding your preferred school can offer a place if they have one available, without having to go through the appeal process.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Oh poor miniest, that’s so hard. It might be worth contacting the preferred school again, and asking if you could get an appointment earlier if the opportunity arises. Slim chance, but worth a try. There might be other kids that decline their spots or something

It was pink on the way out of work today, and the clouds caught the light well
