The BEST situation would be for the judge to say prison for a first offender is inappropriate. And then sentence the Mango Mussolini to 1000 hours of community service in which he'd pick up trash along the highway etc. And begin the 1000 hours in September.

I just want him to have to piss in a cup before the debates so he can't take his hitler energy cocktail.

I wonder what the GOP take on Hunter's trial is going to be? I'm going to go out on a limb and say, if convicted they will praise it, while at the same time saying Biden has the DOJ weaponized against Trump. If Trump's DOJ hadn't shut down all investigations into his crimes I'm sure his Federal ones would have started while he was still in office. He also wouldn't have had to rush to announce his running to make his cases "political" even though nothing states he can't be held accountable and campaign at the same time. Running alone shouldn't be treated as some shield to prosecution as it is due to everyone afraid of looking "political" and feeding right into the crazy arguments from criminals.

As much as I wish he would land in jail, I doubt that will be the actual outcome. I bet the republican talking heads know it too, but they can't resist cashing in on the fear of it to fire up their bases.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said last month. “I think a lot of these cases [will] work up, and the Supreme Court finally says enough is enough, we’re not a banana republic.”

I really hope they do Senator. In a Banana Republic, the Glorious Leader is usually not held to account for his crimes. In the US and in functional Republics, we actually hold people to account for the crimes they commit, regardless of their current or former positions. Trump committed a crime, being a former President doesn't mean he can't be held to account.

[–] [email protected] 25 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Warn? WARN? The arrogance is astounding. Just who do they think they are?

One of those dipshits said “we’re not a banana republic”. That’s correct. Even legislators in those countries know that shitting on their own legal system is counterproductive, but that hasn’t been the case here!

I’m so sick of these crybabies tearing the country apart simply out of spite. Learn what consequences and facts are, you pathetic whiners.

Biden is OBVIOUSLY overseeing this STATE Judge who told Trump multiple times he would be thrown in Jail but never was DESPITE threatening the Judge's family and then allowed a Jury to deliberate in private to come to a conclusion based solely off the Evidence provided.

That is UNFAIR and an ABUSE OF POWER on Joe Biden's part!

[–] [email protected] 22 points 5 months ago

Biden's Justice Department declined to prosecute Trump for the obvious crimes he was just convicted of! You can't just say shit that's the complete opposite of reality!!! Oh wait, republicans can, and they'll earn votes with lies like this...

[–] [email protected] 41 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (4 children)

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said it would be a “further abuse of power” to incarcerate Trump or sentence him to home confinement.

“I’m very troubled by what I see in the way the courts have been weaponized,” he said. “It used to be there were some institutions in America, namely the FBI, the Department of Justice and the courts, which were regarded as out of bounds for overt partisan politics, but unfortunately that’s changed, and not for the better.”

I am at a loss for how true his words are, while his intent is SO SO wrong

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The only answer is for Trumplethinskin to perform 1000 hours of community service beginning in September.

His aim here is to provide cover for the politicians that actually do want to and have attempted to weaponize federal law enforcement in the past, Trump and other Republicans.

https://washingtonmonthly.com/2018/01/05/trump-is-using-the-fbi-to-go-after-his-opponents-how-will-the-media-respond/

I could go on. So many instances where he ordered law enforcement officials to launch baseless investigations to harass his political opponents. Even Barr of all people at one point was threatening to resign because of how far Trump had gone! The guy explicitly brought in by Trump because he felt Jeff Sessions wasn't directly doing his bidding enough.

All this while simultaneously trying to delegitimize our entire justice system trying to hold Trump and his cronies liable for their many criminal activities over the past eight years.

Gaslight, obstruct, and project.

Definitely heading for a Russian style "democracy" if the gop is allowed to return to power.

Gaslight
Obstruct
Project

Every accusation is an admission. This guy would jump at the chance to weaponize the Justice Dept for his extremist views, guarantee it.

Americans warn America against listening to GOP senators

[–] [email protected] 39 points 5 months ago (3 children)

Unfortunately Americans don't listen to Americans and keep electing GOP senators.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Mostly by abstention. We had less than 50% attendance in the last two congressional midterm elections.

They feel he tilted the trial? He handled Trump with kid gloves the whole trial while he was throwing constant diaper filled tantrums. If anything he went way too easy on the orange baboon.

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago (2 children)

He's not going to give Trump a prison term. He said as much during Trump's tenth contempt citation. This is Senators grandstanding so that they can go home and tell their constituents "I fought for your President and I won!" when the outcome was a foregone conclusion. Its all kabuki.

Fascists always say they were treated unfairly...

The problem with that is, moderates then treat them with kids gloves, thinking that will stop them from saying it.

It never does.

To deal with fascists you throw the book at them, max legal punishment for every crime.

Because even if you just give them a slap on the wrist, their ideology requires them to say they were treated unfairly and are being persecuted.

It's like how they'll call the most conservative Dem in office a communist. So there's no point in running a conservative Dem, they'll fight them as hard as the most progressive.

There's no rational reason to compromise before the fight starts.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Give it a shot, maybe he'll have enough time before November to publish a book

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Many judges grant the defense way more leeway than the prosecution. One reason is actually pretty brutal- it keeps them from having something to appeal.

Trump obviously wants to drag this out as long as possible, and keep re-rolling the dice until he wins. Preventing that is a worthy goal.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

While there is some credence for that, it's not like it only applies to fascists.

Yet they always get preferential treatment at trial.

Regardless of if that's like Trump's case where he appointed the judge, or this one where the other party appointed the judge.

In both situations, the judges are more lenient with fascists than literally any other demographic.

trump isnt the only example, look at all the 1/6 trials.

Our justice system has a bias towards fascists, and regardless of the reasoning of the person showing the bias, they all believe it's justified for one reason or another.

And it's always the wrong strategy when dealing with fascists.

They mean the two-tiered legal system, where the working class is subject to the expected uncaring legal system, and the monied-class can be protected from prosecution (much less incarceration) by the wink-and-a-nod privileged legal system.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

They mean the tv shows, where the cops frequently ignore basic rights of innocent people to get the bad guys.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 5 months ago

I would love to see this orange piece of crap in jail.
