If someone told you that they wanted to/have gone to this place you would be very suspicious of them. For me it's Theiland and The Philippines. Nothing good happens there.

I am pretty sure OP is lowkey racist

I hear the Netherlands is a hotspot for prostitution. Kinda like the Theiland of Europe.

Unless you're in Europe that's even more sex-touristy than Thailand. Nobody crosses continents for windmills, but lots of people like Buddhist architecture, beaches and sticky rice.

It's regulated prostitution in the Netherlands, at least, and sex work is work.

It is. I used to go there all the time back in the late 80's/early 90's for the prostitution. It's pretty much legal over there. There's a lot of red light districts in Amsterdam you can visit that just exist out in the open. It's great. I stopped after a little bit once I found out about the legal consequences this could have but I still look back at it fondly.

Interesting. Are there workers that cater specifically to women (going by your username)?

[–] [email protected] 11 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Nothing good happens there.

That's a peak western chauvinist take right there. My wife and I are lowkey planning a trip to Thailand to explore the food, suppose that makes us some sort of creeps?

This whole concept of some places being judge worthy is racist as hell.

Thailand or the Philippines is actually the right answer, although it heavily depends on maleness and general vibes. If it's a women I'd just think "have fun eating street curry".

Dubai consistently knocks them down a couple pegs of respect.

I'll submit Israel. Unless it's to visit family there's no wholesome reason to insert yourself there at the moment.

Nothing good happens there.

This is incredibly dismissive of two entire countries and cultures. I suspect it’s based out of ignorance or preconceived notions rather than any actual experience or knowledge

If you think this you think what the majority of Thai and Filipino people believe is a "idiotic take".

I used to work in Thailand off and on for 5 years and also spent 4 months in Philippines over that time scuba diving all over and visiting volcanoes etc. both are amazing places and to write them off just because some old creeps go for girls is flat out ridiculous

Thailand is an absolutely beautiful country with amazing food why would you say “nothing good happens there”, I don’t know enough about the Philippines to have an opinion about it but that also seems like quite an overstatement for them as well

It's pretty known for sex tourism, including the underage kind. That's only if it's somebody who fits the profile of a sex tourist, though.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I just can’t imagine having a person I call a friend who told me they came back from Thailand and my thought went to I bet they went there to sleep with underage prostitutes. Like I know people do that but I would never willingly associate with a person who I thought would do that

[–] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (1 children)

I've never had a guy tell me that exactly, but I've definitely encountered people (drunk people? I feel like I'm remembering a drunk guy going on about it) who have mentioned regularly going to Thailand and who make me wonder.

I'm not talking intimate, close confidants here.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

But like if you had a work friend tell you that they are going to Thailand for vacation would your first thought be sex tourism or just normal vacation?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

I wouldn't jump straight to sex tourism if there's no other red flags, no.

I have family connections out that way, I am aware there's lots of other great stuff around.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

That’s why I am arguing against the OPs statement that they would be suspicious of anyone who goes there because “nothing good happens there”

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, OP has since clarified they meant that more literally than I expected.

If you're a broke and amoral European lady with no interest in history, architecture or Islam and you tell me you're going to Dubai...

[–] [email protected] 1 points 13 hours ago

Are you saying the European ladies are going to Dubai to hook?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

From what I've heard, you don't have fun in Dubai with no money.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago

Depends on whether you're offering or paying for it...

[–] [email protected] 5 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

~~“Amoral” 🤣 Like Dubai has any business judging morals~~

Ignore me, the point went “whoosh” over my head

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I think that was OP's point. What's she going for?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (2 children)

What’s she going for?

~~Whatever she wants because the UAE welcomes wealth and excessive spending, that’s kind of its whole thing (that and human rights violations). The idea that visiting Dubai is precedented by an interest in history is not grounded in reality. If Dubai was concerned about anything other than excess wealth, why do they keep building things like the burj khalifa and an indoor snow ski slope?~~

Ignore this, I really misunderstood the comment

[–] [email protected] 3 points 23 hours ago

Yeah, history was maybe a stretch, lol, the country kinda gives me the heevie jeebies tbh but some people do go to for instance Sharjah to live quiet lives, some perhaps even to Dubai for Islamic studies or whatnot (the ladies that are getting pooped on are from particular demographics and ethnicities too, because that's what these wild rich fucks are into, so I specified not to suspect everyone going to Dubai!) but the nightlife and private events can be and often do get haram AF 🤷😅

[–] [email protected] 2 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago) (1 children)

Exactly. It's definitely not for any plausible moral reason.

Although OP also mentioned she's broke, so it might not work out as planned...

[–] [email protected] 3 points 23 hours ago

Whoops! missed that part 🤦 very good point
