On the Human skin are living more creatures of these, than existing Humans on Earth. For example, these are running across your face right now without you noticing. All of us have these maskots.

Are you sure? I remember reading that about bacteria, not mites.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

yes, Bacteria certainly vital for us, but also certain mites can have certain positive immunologyvefects. The human body is an full ecosystem, because of this an antibiotic abuse can have several negative effects. Antibiotics are important in bacterial infections, but not, as is often the case, in viral diseases, colds or prophylactically, worse, many times without a medical prescription..

You forgot to answer the question

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I meant that the question wasn't about the positive effects of parasites but about the number you mentioned.

The total bacteria mass [they] find represents about 0.3% of the overall body weight, significantly updating previous statements that 1%–3% of the body mass is composed of bacteria or that a normal human hosts 1–3 kg of bacteria [NIH. NIH Human Microbiome Project defines normal bacterial makeup of the body. Natl Institutes Heal 2012. (accessed January 3, 2015). link 5th paragraph from top].

They were asking about mites, not bacteria, which is what the pictures are depicting.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 4 months ago

This is triggering a phobia in me. I don't want to imagine them creeping on me.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Are these the things I was told are beneficial as a kid?

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 months ago

They feed on dead skin cells and prevent infections. Yes, most of them are beneficial, just like those that live inside us. Although naturally there are also harmful ones, although they are usually the exception. This is why don't Panic knowing that bacteria and bugs like these account for several kilos of our weight. Its benefit is noted among others in digestive disorders and other side effects after treatment with antibiotics, which unfortunately also kills them..

Insects up close creep me out. It's good humans are bigger than insects. I don't want to see human-sized insects.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

As CO2 levels increase, plants will grow faster and put out more oxygen. This will allow insects to absorb enough oxygen to increase to prehistoric sizes.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Understood, kill the plants it is!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Wow, a reference to The Neverhood. Didn't expect that today!

Micrographs are awesome. My favourite is the tapeworm with false colour that looks like a methhead https://i.redd.it/97oiw37koff21.jpg

Also, unfortunately, it reminds me of this heinous thing: https://twitter.com/suzuya_96/status/1501884233656467459?lang=en

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 months ago

Can confirm, Xitter is heinous. Seeing no image there. :(

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago (1 children)

This isn't even the worst thing I've seen on this bathroom break.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ffs. It’s too late for me but there is still time to delete this.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Oh no comrade Andrenikous, it has only just begun.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I hate you. I hate this. I need bleach.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 months ago

Luckily, the text loaded fast, while the image lagged, so I had time to close. Sometimes, having a shitty internet pays off.
