Best camera app for grapheneOS (lemmy.world)

What is the Best camera app for grapheneOS on android?

People on reddit keep saying Pixel Camera is better but developer says there isn't any difference.

Should I keep using the default grapheneOS camera or give Pixel Camera a try? And is there any third party camera (prefer Open Source) that is better than both?

Just tested Pixel Camera is indeed better. Still looking for an Open Source alternative that could compete with it though

I've been using both Open Camera and PhotonCamera for a while now, and these two are probably the best options. You can get them both on F-Droid.

Do be careful with Photon, though, as its still early in development and is very crash happy (not to mention its development is extremely slow, maybe even dead at this point?). It also has network permissions for.. some reason, so make sure to disable those if possible.

Photon's image processing also sucks up your battery power quite a lot - one time I've seen my battery drop 2% just from taking a single image (I run a Xiaomi Mi 10T Pro with LineageOS)

Photon also lacks A LOT in terms of customization. It's also locked to taking pictures in HDR, unless you set the frame count to 1, in which case it will start taking pictures in RAW, which is even worse. It's also impossible to switch the directory where the pictures are saved, and HDR pictures and RAW pictures are stored in entirely separate folders.

Despite all that, the pictures that come out of Photon are definitely a grade above those I take with Open Camera, though I still use OC when I get fed up with Photon every now and then. And when set up right, the pictures taken with OC can be just as good.

Isn't it just the Post-Processing that makes the difference? I'm not a huge fan of a device deciding on how to develop a photo, I prefer to have more control over that. I guess it has its merits for a quick snapshot to instantly share with someone but that's not important to me.

Does anyone know of a good app to develop photos (similar to Adobe Lightroom but FOSS, like dark table on desktop)?

Just set up a user for google crap, when you absolutely positively need it, go use camera ( or maps or whatever), when you're done, shut it down. Over time it happens less and less...

That's what I do, and no Play services on my device. Then you just need this if you want to be able to click on the photo preview and see your recent shots without having Google Photos installed: https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/index/apk/com.google.android.apps.photos

Had trouble installing that, but https://github.com/ryosoftware/GPhotosShim via obtainium worked perfectly. Hooks it up to gOS Gallery.

As far as I know it needs Play store, Play services and GMSCompatConfig so you'll be right back where you started. You can deny those things network permissions as well, but things tend to go awry when they can't phone home, you end up having to enable and disable network on things to get other things to work. Personally I don't trust it, good as the GrapheneOS devs are, it's always a moving target.

It's pretty quick to switch users, swipe down, swipe down, tap users, tap user, enter passcode (make it short) and you're there.

I download it from aurora. So no play service on my phone and I can still use pixel cam

I use Open Camera. Great app, pretty intuitive, with lots of options. The downside is, there's lots of options, so it can be annoying when you quickly want to take a picture, but the settings are all wrong for the situation.

Maybe not in quality, but definitely in user experience. Graphene camera offers basic functionality and does the job perfectly fine. But not being able to record in 60fps is a dealbreaker. But the annoying part about the Pixel Camera is that it requires Google Photos to quickly view a photo taken...
