International views of Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are much more negative than positive, according to a Pew Research Center survey of 24 countries conducted this spring.

Netanyahu and the IDF are pure evil. Our 🇨🇦 former PM Trudeau said he was a "Zionist" (while wearing a kippa) in one of his little theatrical speeches. Meanwhile, his Zionist buddies are killing babies and pregnant women. I could just puke. Oh, a comment similar to this got me banned from Reddit for "hate speech." Apparently, Israel is above ALL criticism and murdering children is their God-given right. Imagine that.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Strange how the most recent ESC almost convinced us of the opposite.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 day ago

Fuck israel

Netanyahu was always unpopular both in Israel and outside Israel.

Opinions across the world started shifting after he renewed efforts to occupy most of Gaza. Hamas is a terrorist organization and everybody acknowledges that, but they're defeated at this point. Israel has decisively won this war months ago. They get to have virtually any of their demands met with any ceasefire deal they agree to from getting back the rest of the hostages to having access to the Philadelphi corridor to expelling Hamas from Gaza.

There was a deal a couple of months ago that they agreed to and everybody thought this war was finally coming to an end. Fighting stopped, hostages were being released, and everybody acknowledged that Israel won. People were excited that war was finally coming to an end and people were debating what a post Hamas Gaza should look like and how reconstruction should be handled. However, Netanyahu single-handedly scrapped this deal and restarted the war for no reason.

Now, people are just tired of him and the war. Not just around the world, but also in Israel. A whooping 70% of Israelis have an unfavorable view of him and his government. Israel won't be taken seriously again until he's removed from power, and everybody wants him out. However, he knows that he's going to get his ass thrown in jail the moment this war is over and so he's never going to end it.

The media shift is happening right now. It started about 3 weeks ago, and suddenly the media shifts from pro-israel to anti-israel. At least here in central europe this is what's happening.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

This is honestly a good opportunity to see which outlets are beholden to israel.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I can tell you why) Trump and the US have rebelled against the EU, so now the EU has only one ally, and that is Turkey. The US now belongs to Moscow, so for the EU it is a matter of survival.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 16 hours ago

The world doesn't revolve around donald trump.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

That's a fair assessment.

My personal conspiracy theory (here is a dumpster full of salt to take with it, take it as you will) is that a major PR operation was underway to commit genocide against arabs "in defense of the jews", drive up wealth inequality in the empire by hollowing out the social safety net and when it reached a breaking point in the empire turn around and say "We have been betrayed! The jews said they needed to be saved in Israel and we had NO idea they were committing genocide!!! Look what they did to our economy too they stole it and gave it to billionaires!!!!" and hopefully trigger a world wide conflict where a violent line could be drawn between reasonable people.

The thing is, it didn't work, the U.S. public was before the start of the palestinian genocide perhaps arguably in a place where the structural ability to shape the narrative in the media coupled with ownership of ALL major social media companies by rightwing conservative billionaires who are ideologically onboard with this plan whether they know about the plan or not... but now? Now the truth has gotten to too many people with hearts.

Given those conditions imagine you are a middle level player in a plan like that and suddenly it has become apparent that your side has existentially lost? I think it looks a lot like what is happening right now, very very very scary plans being enacted in a rushed haphazard way almost like they didn't have all the pieces in place to make it work and were starting to realize they were only going to have less pieces in the future, not more.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

That's literally just midaevil europe, but with genocide instead of payday loans.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

He has ran the place for basically 20 of the last 30 years. I don’t think he cares what anyone else thinks.

I bet it's because he's a genocidal fascist. But I guess it could be something else, who knows.

Turkey's numbers are suspiciously high, I get the feeling they were never a fan of israel

[–] [email protected] 1 points 16 hours ago

It's not suspicious that the two Muslim majority countries on the list (Turkiye and Indonesia) have the highest numbers.

They are more likely to view Muslims as people.

If you're not othering and demonizing people it's much easier to notice when someone is genociding them.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

It's a Muslim nation. Ask other Muslim nations, and you'll see similar numbers.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 day ago

turkey has a muslm population so as with most muslim populations they were aware of Israel's atrocities before oct7.

turkey in particular has a gripe with Israel as well, as they have tried before what Greta Thunberg is trying to do right now, to break the blockade with an aid ship by joining a flotilla, to which Israel promptly sent commandos and killed 10 activists on the ship. it's surprising the number isn't 100%, considering.

of course no one else really gave a shit and the us/eu kept sucking Israel's dick until they recently got too comfortable killing their people as well. but hey, better late than never.

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago

No, turns out people against wholesale slaughter? You don't say... Not sure why the dude from fucking ISRAEL doesn't know that but sure.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

Rightfully so.

[–] [email protected] 65 points 1 day ago (2 children)

There you go DNC. Those mythical Centrist you keep wanting to court don't like Isreal. You now have a green light to actually oppose genocide.

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Why did they have to put right on the left and left on the... why did they... why the goddamn fucking hell... WHY DiD THEY FUCKING...

[–] [email protected] 22 points 1 day ago

It's not organized by left and right. It's organized by percentage of people who have an unfavorable view of Israel.

It would be weirder for 0% to be on the right and 100% to be on the left. Also, in theory, it's possible for those three dots to be in any order on the line.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Because they hate people?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In some countries, younger people are more likely than older people to have an unfavorable view of Israel. This is particularly the case in the high-income countries surveyed: Australia, Canada, France, Poland and South Korea and the U.S. In fact, the U.S. has one of the largest age gaps in views of Israel.

Young people don’t vote, unfortunately they don’t show this graph on the article

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

Young people don’t vote

They do in countries with compulsory voting, like Australia.

Netanyahu will be remembered alongside other murderers like Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin, and Mussolini

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

We can only hope, and to add Putin’s name to that list.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

Can you believe that Benji is actually killing more children than Putin?

I don't see how someone can oppose the war in Ukraine but not Israel and still think they should be taken seriously.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What’s up with Kenya and Nigeria? Serious question.

Same for a number of other places in Africa and around the world. I doubt they really know what's going on right now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The Nigerian understanding of religion is fascinating. They just take what they need from any place they want. In the western world most people stick with the faith they were born in, or maybe switch once or twice in their lifetime. In Nigeria it's common to switch very frequently, always taking the parts they like best and leaving behind the rest.

It's a very open and interesting way to look at things, not so much tied to their own personal identity ("I am protestant, so I must hate catholics" as it used to be common in the west), but instead they build their own faith from all the best sources they can find.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago

In Nigeria it’s common to switch very frequently, always taking the parts they like best and leaving behind the rest.

That's hilarious, if true.

Really shows how culture can be shaped over time.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago

Nothing in that explains why the majority of the population would have favourable views of Israel. There are several things that would appear to support the opposite actually, such as the Nigerian government arresting and deporting the Israeli film crew.

I have had Israeli friends walk me through every intricacy of the system even almost 20 years ago, and when asking them, so wtf are you supposed to do to make it work for everyone? And they just get sad and don't have a good answer. This isn't new.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

so wtf are you supposed to do to make it work for everyone?

Get out of Israel.

The best solution for all parties involved is to relocate Jews from Israel to the United States.

We have plenty of room for them here.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 hours ago

I'm a fifth generation American Jew. My grandfathers killed Nazis by the dozen. We're american as fuck. I love playing guitar to country and classic rock. My parents were both blue collar union. I grew up in a gas station smelling fumes doing homework when my mechanic grandfather picked me up from school covered in grease bc my parents were busy working 5 jobs.

I've always waited with bated breath for the day Nixon's comments about being Jewish before American captivates the poor angry masses again. And we're here. Antisemitic violence in US at 8x YoY. In the back of my head always, if the president blames the Argentines for our economy, they could go back to Argentina. Israel was founded bc millions of people were genocided bc they had no Argentina to go home too.

So.. in practice, I've lived what you say. In theory, this is an unanswered question. And the whole, "the Jews can just go to..." argument falls flat when you look at how every surrounding country has rejected Palestinian refugees and asylum seekers for decades now.

Yes, irony that Israelis genociding Palestinians is my argument philosophically for Jews needing a home. But I figured you were familiar with the topic for context. AND that 20 years later, I'm still an empathetic person who this morning while making my son breakfast, listening to immortal technique, start crying every time I hear him rap "trapped in a ghetto region like a Palestinian kid where nobody gives a fuck whether you die or you live." I've felt for those babies for DECADES while everyone wrote them off as dirty poor brown news headlines.

So I get to teach my kid to stand up for Gaza and little boys and girls just like him that should get to play and dream about their futures and hopes, but also to look out for and fight Nazis at home, while fearing that my neighbors are going to kill him. So it's not so black and white unless you tuned in two years ago and put on the latest pin. Some of us have been and are still outraged about every genocide going on across the globe, but Sudanese, Uyghurs, et al don't have the ear of purported progressives. I literally say sobbing parked in the car listening to news from Sudan two weeks ago on democracy now. THEYRE ROUNDING UP WOMEN AND CHILDREN, and I haven't seen a single fucking headline here.

It's hard not to feel like whites and Christians are using Jews and Muslims for fodder to control oil rich regions. Have you seen the latest Heritage Foundation papers on antisemitism? Project Esther? Literally against tackling supremacy in the US while genociding Palestine.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 day ago

I mean not that shocking the people living on top of another don't belive they can live peacefully while the people they are on top of are still alive.
