Pokémon Scarlet & Violet seem the obvious beneficiaries from that list. Any improvements made to their atrocious performance would feel significant.

I'm curious how much valve is gonna charge for the steamdeck 2 game upgrades.

They are so bad at business they will probably forget to charge me, just like they did for my steam online subscription to play online multiplayer steam games...

Gabe better have the correct successor lined up

This is what scares me the most actually...

I can imagine a venture capitalist taking over steam and how quickly it would turn to shit

Don't worry, he plans on being immortal. Shouldn't be an issue.

I won't buy one, and will likely retire from purchasing consoles.

I want a machine that plays games that belong to me, that have no online requirements whatsoever.

I want to own a machine that cannot be bricked remotely by the seller.

It's a pastime/luxury/extravagance that I can and will abandon and replace with something more reasonable.

Steam deck, or a variant, is all I am doing for handhelds any more.

I won’t buy Nintendo products anymore.

Isn't Steam even more always online?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 days ago

I used it on airplane mode for 6 weeks, not realizing it was still on that. So, not really?

And all my installers are backed up as well, so the publishers don’t try to screw me. May not help with them all, but oh well.

  • ARMS
  • Big Brain Academy: Brains Vs. Brain
  • Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
  • Game Builder Garage
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe
  • Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet
  • Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

So Pokemon is finally getting the patch it needs just to function properly. It's just tied to a $400 console.

The majority of the Switch 2's marketing has focused on ports and upgrades for old games. Which a Steam Deck still does better. And at least Valve won't brick my system when their profit margin is threatened.

$450 console, plus tax

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 days ago

I’m still passing on the switch 2 at this rate.

Free upgrade is always great. Sadly, Tears of Kingdom is not on this list

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 days ago

It's embarrassing, really.

But it has an app that you can see the map on 😲 /s

This is a pathetically short list

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Do other games need a major performance patch?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 days ago

They'll probably add more later, but they'll still almost entirely not be major games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

This, with the paid updates list, covers most of the first party games, though there are still some that's left.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

covers most of the first party games

Which gets me thinking... have we seen any announcement for third party game upgrade patches? Free or paid?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Not yet. It's quite possible that many third party devs, specially the smaller and indie ones don't have access to Switch 2 dev kit. I am hoping there would be patches as more and more devs get access to it.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Let's hope it's the case, I would be very happy with some upgrade patches for the Trails games.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Deltarune - Not sure if this is being categorized as a patch, but if you buy it on Switch 1 you can upgrade to the Switch 2 version for free.

Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma - $10 upgrade pack. Interestingly, the Switch 2 physical is a special cart that can boot the Switch 1 version on legacy hardware, or the bundled upgrade pack on Switch 2.

I believe those are the only two so far, and they're cross-gen launch titles rather than any older releases. Sega on the other hand is notably not doing this, they're porting a few of their Switch 1 titles at full price with no upgrade option.

Good info, thanks!
