In other countries they sell modified versions of these handguns that cannot be made into machine guns with a switch. This is the real solution, but for some reason gun manufacturers can do no wrong in the US and are not held to higher safety standards.

Wasn't the bump stock banned by Trump after the Vegas shooting? Then unbanned under Biden?

Maybe if the ATF wasn’t so terrible and sloppy and did things that made sense and did things legally we could have some sensible gun laws.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You're catching strays but your 100% right. The ATF is extremely ineffective, and are an actual road block in getting meaningful shit done! They like being unsupervised and shooting people's dogs, like any other cop.

Full auto weapons should be legal. Only idiots think full auto weapons are more dangerous. If someone is going to try using full auto during a crime all that will happen is the weapon will pull to the side and expend all it's ammo in a few seconds. There is a reason why the military changed to semi auto/burst rifles as the standard.

Hey cool, the magazine will be empty before people can get to safety!

There are plenty of untrained idiots that will end shooting up a ceiling or the sky.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I know how it won't end, and that's the device being deployed against the people who deserve to have it deployed against them the most.

Nice I’ve been wanting a FRT. machine guns aren’t very good for mass shootings. All your ammo is gone instantly and you’re way less accurate. It’s good for suppressing fire, and fun in the backyard. This is not going to lead to more gun deaths.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does this mean we can get one now in California? Or is this still not settled?

I like how you are acting like most of us haven't played an FPS. The biggest difference is that there is no balance nerf between the damage an automatic bullet does and a semiautomatic bullet does. It's certainly leading to more gun deaths in Mexico, where a lot of these weapons are getting exported down to, although it is refreshing to act like school shootings still aren't a thing.

I fully expect for police to have to fear being "suppressive fired" soon enough, there are enough militant groups within the US that will enjoy the news, specially given the number of their members that were pardoned for Jan 6th.

Let us not forget... an FRT doesn't even constitute a "machine gun" by their own definition!

[–] [email protected] 24 points 1 week ago (1 children)

“We were going to win this,” said the former senior ATF official. “These things are not like bump stocks."

Forced reset devices are actually exactly like bump stocks in that they're legal because they force a distinct action of the trigger for every round fired. The legal definition of a machine gun is a firearm that fires more than one round per single action of the trigger. They haven't bothered to amend or expand that definition, so these types of devices keep skirting by on a technicality.

I suppose the argument could be made that forced reset devices work in a very similar way to a machine gun's auto sear, the difference being that they act on the trigger of the gun rather than the hammer, but it still doesn't meet the government's own definition of a machine gun.

The ATF is a s terrifying joke.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Hopefully it'll end with the ultimate irony.

[–] [email protected] 53 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Remember gang, if your ID has an l, g, b, t, or q on it you qualify as desperately in need of guns.

[–] [email protected] 30 points 1 week ago (5 children)

I just wish I had a gay gun owning friend who could go to the gun store with me. I know what I want, I just like hand holding.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

If you're in the Kansas area, hit me up, I'll go in drag if you ask nice lol

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No need, seriously don't buy at a gun store. Buy online and ship it to your big box store FFL, and then go pick up there.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Hmmm

Internet credit card purchase,

Or

Backwoods shack cash purchase.

Hmmm.

Shit, you can buy guns at gas stations in my neck of the woods.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago

I buy most of mine used locally via our state gun forum. Most states have one, just go on there look around, meet up, pay cash, show CCW and done.

I've yet to purchase a firearm that was "used up". Most I buy people put a few hundred rounds through them at best.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

Well, crap, I'm not gay, but I'll hold your hand. :) What do want? That's the interesting thing about guns, there is such a VARIETY for different purposes. Self defense, home defense, small/medium/big game hunting are all completely different.

If I'm going to raise my Kinsey scale a point or two for just a moment, there's also the aesthetic to consider. I'm not ashamed to admit I've bought a gun that made me go "Ooooohhh".

For example, when my dad died one of the guns I inherited was this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Standard_Derringer

And I'm like "Ok, that's adorable, but in .22 it's useless." Also known to be problematic. Sometimes only one barrel would fire.

But I liked the idea so I bought one of these:

.45LC/.410 shotgun shells

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This is so real! I literally bought a knockoff ksg for $150 drink one night cause I was like "oooooo space scattergat!" I have shot it twice in two years, cause it weighs like 3 pounds and I can't tell the difference between a cheap bird shot shell or a 3 inch magnum slug.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Nothing wrong with the KSG, but for me? I dig the old school Mossberg Shockwave w/ wood furniture. ;)

You are practically down the street from me.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

Well, come on over, we'll hang out! :) If you're looking for a safe gun shop I can reccomend two:

East side:

West side:

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

OK, that's adorable but in .22 it's useless

I'll tell you what the guy that taught me used to say, " 22 or 50, no one laughs at being held at gunpoint. "

Stopping power is, for the most part a myth. I love 22 because if cheap, it's light, and the guns feel nicer in my hand. My bud uses 9mm glocks because he describes them as the "iPhone of guns" you do you boo, just make sure your Deringer has a trigger guard, that's just good safety.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Not only is 22lr weak compared to most other rounds, the fact that it is rimfire makes it less reliable. If you want a similar power to 22lr in a defense caliber, go with .25acp.

All true, but a .22 carbine rifle is way different from a 2 shot .22 Derringer with effectively no barrel and no sites with a bonus defect which may cause one of the two shots to misfire.

For .22? Give me this:

https://www.henryusa.com/rifles/golden-boy/

Of course, I already have the big brother in .44 Magnum. :)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I inherited a NAA-22lr. It literally fits in the palm of my hand.

They make a purple one now, which is cute: https://www.northamericanarms.com/shop/naa-22lr-orchid/

Even a .22 can kill someone.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago

That's really cool, but I have to admit I can't immediately figure out how that trigger works...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

Better to hit with .22 than miss with a .357. The US Special Forces have been using .22 LR Ruger pistols, with silencers, since the Vietnam War.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I really like the idea of a 410 handgun, but I live in NY.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

.410 handguns are tricky in a lot of states because they're smoothbore, so they get classified as a short barreled shotgun and are considered illegal, the Bond Arms one above included.

Totally legal here, cross over into California? Yeah, not so much!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago

The gay gun, like a ray gun. I think they sell it at sharper image

Before I read the article, I’m going to go with “bump stocks” as the device. Let’s find out if I’m right…

[–] [email protected] 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nope although they do get a mention. Apparently in this case it's forced reset triggers. Saying they allow a semi-auto gun to fire like a full-auto is a bit of a stretch though, even more so than for a bump stock.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah that’s such horse shit. You still have to pull the trigger.
