A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

What is a bread roll if not all crust?
What is toasting, if not making the whole piece of bread more crust-like?

The crust on sliced bread doesnt have the same flavour as a roll's crust. Tbh the crust on white bread tastes burnt to me.

Currently, my 3-year-old will only eat the crust of a piece of bread. He leaves the rest for me.

I love bread crust. Good bread has a hard crust that may break a tooth. Soft white bread crust is a very different thing, but I don't mind it.

Wait is this a thing in humans over the age of 4? I've seen kids ask for the crust to be cut off but other than adults who eat the whole slice of pizza except the crust, I've never seen an adult who didn't like bread crust.

In the US there is literally something called an "uncrustable". I suppose a lot Americans have the palate of a toddler.

Nah kids food is just that popular, because we don't feed schoolchildren.

Lol again, I've never seen anyone over the age of maybe 10 eating one of those. Definitely never saw an adult eating one.

I prefer the heels for sandwiches tbh. It hold together better, doesn't have holes that spreads leak through. Also, no one else in my house eats it so I'm guaranteed 2 slices XD

I love bread crust, but I can understand why people might not like them. It occupies a middle ground between "bread" and toast. It has some earthy flavor (that I like in toasted bread), but it is also softer than toast (which I can appreciate).

Thus, I think it might be the "worst of both worlds" for some people: too soft, tasting off, etc.

I love them all though: pizza crust, bread crust, toasted bread, toasted pizza crust, toasted bread crust.

Because they're different types of crust

Ah, so it's a no cannibalism thing, got it.

Crusty jugglers

I love bread crusts from everything except mass produced bread like white bread. I love sourdough crusts more than the insides!

Mass produced bread crust is just awful. I don't cut it off but totally understand why so many people do.

The same reason you like eating caramelised onions, but not onion skins.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

OP asked about bread crust, not the plastic bag it's sold in.

This is a terrible analogy for bread crust.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

That's more like bread vs. wheat bran

I am all onion skins on this glorious day.

I always eat crust on toasted bread. But not pizza crust

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago

Would a dipping sauce change your mind at all? They stop being the worst part of pizza and start being luxury breadsticks.

Pizza crust is pretty inconsistent on being emjoyable. Domino's crust is ass. Godfather's is fine because it is so narrow. We have a local place with hand tossed crust that is seasoned and basically like having a side of garlic breadsticks.

It’s my favorite part! I’ll eat my husband’s crusts too when he doesn’t feel like eating them.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago (2 children)

What I can't understand is that people like my partner will not eat their crust... But then order bread sticks. Pizza places roll the same dough to make the bread sticks as they use for the dough. Usually I won't eat bread sticks unless they have something to dip them in... But I always eat her crusts. I swear places like dominos cheese bread has to be just a medium pizza with no sauce or toppings. So why not just order a medium pizza if you are going to dip the cheese bread in marinara?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

Usually bread sticks are baked differently (soft vs crisp), and come with seasonings, or even cheese, that pizza crust lacks.

This drives me nuts.
