wait they tryna tell us fucking FOX and FORBES are reliable, centrist outlets?

ahahahahahahsgshahaha

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

It’s telling how the graph says “media”, and not “news”. Fox will claim to be news right up to the point that someone sues them, at which point their lawyers will claim that whatever statements they made that got them in trouble can’t reasonably be interpreted as facts but rather entertainment and opinion.

This is literally just horseshoe theory, graphed out.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

They put the daily wire and daily mail above the decent reporting of Rolling Stone. This chart is bullshit.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

And the right wing rag that is the Wall Street Journal is right in the middle.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Has something changed about TMZ in the last decade too warrant them appearing so high on the chart? Thought they were just a celebrity rag.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I guess the content they cover is silly, but if the coverage is unbiased and factual, that results in an improved score.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

That may be a celebrity rag still but I do remember them breaking some deaths before anyone else. That is still considered news to some.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Yeah I always knew Propublica was a good source.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Fox News is less biased and more reliable than MSNBC, apparently

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The lack of any deviations above the curve, is an indication of the flawed nature of the analysis.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

It certainly implies to me that only centrist views are correct, which I'd push back against.

Here's another version including web-based shows and podcasts:

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Why is Jimmy dore on the left?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Joe Rogan is not that in the middle anymore.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Bellingcat does amazing work.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

WIBC is a news/talk radio station in Indianapolis. It's a combination of local and syndicated shows. I have no idea why it's on that chart.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

As a local, I was very curious to see that on the chart, too. Bizarre.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Wait, Pew is in the middle? They are funded by the templeton foundation. I've also noticed they also do sketchy things with publications, like what they have on their homepage is not the same as the published, I assume peer-reviewed, article. They seem to keep the exagerations on the website, but in articles they tone it down. If they are on the top, that seems like a low bar.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Hats off to Barstool Sports for managing to create low information content that both sides can appreciate.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Forbes being middle left is the perfect illustration of the Overton window theory.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Yeah these ratings are literally just based on the opinions of three analysts from the left, right and center which are then averaged together. They're obviously going to be biased by their particular country, culture and upbringing, both in how they label themselves and how they rate the different articles.

Just for reference, in the expanded chart that I just shared they put Russel Brand and Joe Rogan in the center and Jimmy Dore on the right.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Same for how little Fox News is to the right.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I can’t find CNN or Reuters on this chart. Can someone help me?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

CNN(tv) is at: ("skews left", yellow(high)).
CNN(web): ("skews left", green(mid)).

I'm not seeing Reuters or it's logo.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Nor Politico, Economist, The Guardian. But at least we have Tom's Guide here in case you wondered if Tech guides have a bias...

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I'm disappointed they left out The Onion

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

In the middle on the bottom.. LoL... They equally make fun of everyone.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

They're obviously left leaning, they just don't tow the line, or hold back when valid criticism is deserved.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

The Guardian is on there, 2nd Row, 5th Column. They just used a very small G logo for it so it's hard to spot.

Can't find Reuters though.

'American Thinker'. Isn't every American not on life support an American thinker?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (3 children)

Qatar based Al Jazeera “skews left”. Yeah, I don’t think so. What a joke.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

They do indeed skew left. Read their news sometime. It can be enlightening to get an outside perspective from a group that generally opposes our foreign forays of death and destruction.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

It skews “non-Western”, which doesn’t work well on a chart like this.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

No true Scotsman eh?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

No Infowars? There's a great spot for it in the bottom right corner.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

So far down it didn't make the chart I guess

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Boing Boing used to be a fun feed for silliness and classic counterculture. Now it's just page after page after page of American politics at its worst.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Not knowing shit about american media, I'm both surprised and disturbed how much worse it still seems to get after Fox News.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

In reality, everything from the New York Times rightward should actually be stretched about one section over to the right. There are very few publications that are legitimately in the "skews right" camp these days; there's just no money in it. Outlets in that section are vilified by right wingers for being leftists (even though they're not) and they're ignored by the left for being conservative partisans (which is accurate).

That said, yes; Fox, having changed very little about their programming, is now one of the least partisan right-wing sources. (Even though they're incredibly right-wing.) The Overton Window has shifted drastically.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Fox News should be way further down on the bottom right.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Compared to the other stuff on there, I wouldn't say so unless they move everything in the neighborhood of Daily Wire as well. It really does get that much worse.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Needs more JPEG. I could almost make out some of those logos.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

I saved the image straight from the source, any compression is due to lemmy

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Im not shocked by any of them. I think tech dirt should be a little higher and the verge a little lower but otherwise makes sense
