Back in melbs.

Hit pot hole on way back, tyre fucked, spent 2hrs in a BP car park (admittedly with a nice view of the you yangs and a jackas) waiting for dude to fix.

7/10. Was actually quite lovely out there.

Just wanted to acknowledge the people here who have complicated relationships with their mothers, have lost children, whose mothers have passed, and any expectant mothers, single dads, foster carers or pet owners โค๏ธโค๏ธ

Anyone else notice the price of fuel since the Election?

It was about $1.70/l before the Coalition announced their 12 month excise discount of 25c. Then overnight fuel went up to $2/l.

Now that the Coalition has well-and-truely lost, fuel is back down to $1.60/l.

Is that an iPad? If so do you mind me asking which one? I want to buy one for reading journal papers and writing and tooling around with digital sketching and some photo editing. But I keep getting stuck on a cheaper gen 10 or the more expensive newer air so I can get the pro pen.

If this not an iPad just ignore my ranting I'll go back in my cave ๐Ÿ˜‚

Edit: oh and love the drawing!!

[โ€“] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's not an iPad, it's a few generations old galaxy tab.

Two magpies having a punchup in the back yard o_O

We have one at work that stands over you for snacks. Doesn't like fruit, tolerates banana bread but will take cheese, crackers and meat from your hand. I'm hoping the friendliness stays for swooping season.

Protection payments! It should be ok, they learn faces

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

opened my front door today, and a maggie was outside my front gate. It was completely unfussed by my ratbag younger dog losing his shit at the sight of a magpie, and instead proceeded to tease/warble at him through the fence. It was very cute.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They have come up near my door before! I think they know thereโ€™s cat food inside or maybe just curious

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

My Dad has a family that visit him, and have been known to wander into the house and ask for food. They also bring their fledglings to visit each season. It is super, super cute to see my gruff old Dad chatting away to his magpies. The old softy keeps insects for them.

ETA: a family of magpies, not just, like, a random family who wander in asking for food...

It's a nice coincidence that YarraByte chose a lotus for today's emoji as tomorrow is Vesak Day!

Today I'm taking it fairly easy. My biggest task is to make this delicious prawn curry (incl shallow frying the heads first for extra flavour). One of the few recipes that DON'T use tomato - I'm sick of it being in every other curry recipe out there. Beans, eggplant, gourds, greens, all with tomato! It's not necessary! Have some balance.

Btw - they gave me the prawns in a big ziplock bag type thing, instead of wrapped up. Is this new? The ziploc didn't close very well and I nearly dropped one of my items into a pile of prawns during checkout.

Vesak day - is that the same as Buddha Jayanti? Either way ๐Ÿชท๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Edit: yes it is.

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

tonight I am making a mango curry that has no tomato

also, TIL about Vesak Day

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

Vesak Day is probably the only real day of significance all Buddhists observe worldwide, there probably would've been more events on today if it wasn't for Mother's Day overlapping (and it's not a "festive day" per se...)

Tomato is totally overkill with mango. Too much acidity. I'm adding some tamarind to the prawns and no tomato in my dal or beans. I was rummaging through my freezer meals last night and highly annoyed that most things had tomato in them

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

I too have just learnt about vesak day. V interesting!

Shadows are still perplexing.

Today is a tough day (as I'm sure it is for others). So it's do sweet fuck all and try and stay even keeled.

At least it's a beautiful day.

Last time I rented a property the condition report was a carbon copy checklist of a couple of pages, with a few lines to add comments. This time I have 170 pages, with multiple photos of everything. There are 9 photos of the front door knob.

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

This is a really, really old house.

Every single scuff mark was documented. I moved in 3 years ago and the report was 95 pages.

Moving out is going to suck lol

[โ€“] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

This is a brand new house, there is not really anything to document. There are pages of everything being perfect in great detail.

Basically any damage is going to be on me. There are little pots of all the paint colours though so I can do touchups, and spare tiles and floor boards so any damage to those can be fixed without redoing everything too. Hopefully I can avoid any damage though - I have lots of things like shelf liners and caps to go on all the furniture to stop scratches. Plus many door mats and rugs.

[โ€“] [email protected] 8 points 3 weeks ago

That is insane. I think our last one was 16 pages. It was all online because Covid, pity anyone with a data limit.

I knew, because there was deeply traumatic period of time when Australians of some renown were doing it in public - like swimmers at the olymoics, etc

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 3 weeks ago

With a little bit of this and a little bit of that. Quack, quack, quack, quack.
