and Young Miss Seagoon has invited me to stay with her at Hobbiton, I mean that village near by in NZ. 🧝which is cool

Is Teepublic safe to order from?

Edit: Ahaaa, there’s the catch. The actual Aussie dollar cost showed up at checkout and I’m gonna have to think about that one

I found one of my friends from the park face down next to his car yesterday. I think the old bloke had just tripped and no longer had the fitness to get himself back up. Helped him up and got him into his car. Helped pack away his fly fishing stuff that he practices with. He said he was okay from there but I reckon I should've drove him home. I was on the dog walk so finished that then went back to the park to check on him and the car was gone ~40 minutes later.

I had another therapy client who fell at home and couldn't get back up. In his 90s. Luckily we were close enough that I knew where his spare key was and alarm code so I let myself in for the appointment even though he wasn't answering the door. Found him dehydrated on the floor, got him a drink an called the jewbalance (hatzolah).

Lesson is, don't let your fitness slide so much that you can't get up off the ground... if you can help it.

This is why I've stuck to the 4 days a week gym routine and eating clean as I moved out of my mid 30's.

Been a real godsend.

don’t let your fitness slide

Ooh I'm witnessing this first hand right now too and it's very true.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 2 weeks ago

That’s been on my mind lately 😬

When you've had more than your daily allowance of treats and think being cute will get you some more.

Also, playing Crysis on ps5 with Ray tracing. 15 years ago youd need a fucking supercomputer to get that happening lol.

I'm old.

Safely landed, watching luggage spin gently by...

Miss Meow definitely likes the new mat I put in her carrier, she keeps napping in there. She's in there now snoring away.

I had a mysterious hand delivered letter in my mailbox today, addressed to some people who are not me and marked "private and confidential".

It can't be too confidential because it was a card I was able to read through the envelope, which I presume would be meaningful to whoever it was addressed to but not to me. There is no address or anything so there is no way of passing it on to the right person. I'm thinking maybe just put it through the shredder?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Mark the envelope RTS and drop it in a mailbox. Let the post office open it and determine the sender which they are allowed to do if there is no return address on the envelope. The sender has to pay for the postage then. Which is an incentive to address items correctly. Does sound like it might be religious tracts or similar as per SituationCake below. Or you could open it "in error" and reseal it up again if it turns out to be genuine.
E: for grammar.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It was hand delivered, not sent via post. There is no delivery address or return address.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can likely legally open it then as its not official mail.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Could it be junk mail? I’ve gotten envelopes addressed ‘to the household’ or looks like handwritten ‘sorry I missed you’, and they are always realestate advertising, some kind of tradie magnets or religious spruiking.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it's to specific named people. I can actually read the card inside through the envelope (I may have been nosy and held it up to the light 🤣) and it's pretty much just a note that someone visited while they were out. Not the end of the world if they don't get it, but I presume they would like to know.

Sounds like a real estate agent. I've had something similar - on opening it was an invitation to a scam 'information night' for investing in real estate. Basically a way of harvesting boomers' information for further harassment by mail/text with 'investment opportunities'. This is why I recommend doing a Return To Sender - then they have to pay for the privilege of contacting you and that gets you off their potential victim list very fast indeed.

I found some of my old sketchbooks from my early twenties… there’s not much there but it seems like I was actually fairly good back then before really learning anything.

I often just copied pictures I liked without knowing how to sketch but it was very detailed and somehow I copied hands (???). But now there’s resources and time available I’ve completely got the chokes.

Wish I could get that ability back

It doesn't look like much what with all the prawn heads and pandan leaves etc (and my total lack of making it look nice - recipe) but HOLY SHIT is this a mind-blowing prawn curry. Even frying the heads in oil at the start smelt divine. I confess it might've worked better with lime rather than tamarind but it's still so deep in flavours! I also went ham on the chilli (Kashmiri chilli powder, black pepper, and a couple of v spicy dried chillies). Can't wait to taste what it will be like TOMORROW, my god...

prawnvaganza

Deveining the prawns is a bitch though... the tract keeps snapping and then I can't pull a segment out. I'll need to improve my technique.

That was several hours worth of cooking between that, the cluster beans, and the ginormous pot of dal with cluster beans. But now I'm set for quite a few days. And thanks to my handy dishwasher I can now relax for the rest of the evening. Yay!

The heads and shells are too damn good to just throw away. Best risotto I ever made was with yabbies - boiled up the heads and shells with aromatics to make the stock. Gamechanger. Whenever I get prawns I mostly boil up the heads for stock and freeze it. Does magical things to any rice dish as rich in umami from the tomally in the heads.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I do love just sucking on the heads when I've had whole prawns. I think if I make another prawn dish without the heads I'll be making stock and freezing as well, it's entirely worth it. Or just use the stock directly (I'm thinking of a nice saucy risoni dish maybe).

[–] [email protected] 3 points 2 weeks ago

Yummmm. Can confirm from experience that prawn/yabby stock is one of the best around. And it's never on sale in shops so you just gotta do it yourself. But hella worth it.

The other day, a neighbour posted that they were selling their coffee table, and it came with a free cat bed, as her cat has never used it.

I don't want or care for glass coffee tables, but I asked if I could buy the cat bed - she said it was free and she'd leave it outside her apartment for me!

I grabbed it, thanked her, and gave it to Mickey a few days ago. The top can come off so I detached it and put treats in there for him over the last few days.

Last night, he slept in it!

Weird neighbours aside it’s been a nice day. I spent it cleaning and hanging out with fur daughter. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ofjtX6NT-hY&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD

She didn’t get me flowers or make breakfast but that’s because she’s not allowed near my credit card and can’t reach the stove.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 weeks ago

she's awesome 🐱

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)
